Pros

I get a great deal of freedom to write about issues that concern me. I get to travel all over the world because this platform has given me a recognized voice in the art scene. I feel encouraged and supported by management. I have opportunities that I did not have and could not have before taking this job. I have grown as a writer and as an editor, and even more as a thinker, given this job. Recently they have made the work hours more manageable. The health care is great; and we now have a 401K system in place with a healthy contribution from management. And they are very flexible about allowing time off and for remote work. Plus, they are completely self-funded so are not beholden to any outside investors; therefore, I don't have to worry about people being suddenly laid off because the business has to return money to their investors. There is no other arts outlet in the New York area I would rather work for right now.

Cons

Early on, Hrag's management style was mercurial and therefore a bit difficult to deal with. There were unpredictable outbursts and arguments among upper management and the work load was often a great deal (perhaps too much). However, in the last year, perhaps year and a half, the ship has settled. We have put together a cohesive team, Hrag is less stressed and more able to mentor and guide, and things have changed in his life to make him a bit gentler and more able to hear and accept criticism.
