Pros

Circulating DNA is super cool! :-D The senior management is SO bad that it creates a good solidarity at the lower level. People will always be there to listen, advice, comfort : YOU WILL NEED IT!

Cons

The culture is very bad and atmosphere violent. Constructive recommendations from staff are ignored. People who complain are fired creating an atmosphere of fear. Lots of high level people joined the company because they are 'good friend of'. We might have been unlucky statistically as most of those people do not seem to be competant. Last year the UK lost lots of their staff, 3 of them were made redundant (including a woman during her maternity leave) the rest resigned. As a consequence, they hire lots of consultants. Lots of the knowledge is gone and it will be hard as a newcomer to do a quality job. The upper management will not recognise that. This atmosphere is SO bad that a couple of months ago an employee gave back his badge and computer one morning and left without doing his notice period. He had no job to go to and had never done that in his carrier before. If you do still join the company learn the company values and mission sentence as you will have to tell them by heart under the Inivata flag watched by the CPO (Chief Propaganda Officer). This title of course does not exist but the joke illustrates quite well the company culture. The company might change one day but make sure it has before you join.

Pros

- Fantastic atmosphere within the team, during work and during work breaks as well. - Challenging and interesting opportunities within R&D to develop products. - Involvement from early design stage to product launch, including intellectual property, analytical development, data analysis, pipeline development and data interpretation. While roles and duties are split and defined within projects, during the life cycle of the products under development you will get a chance to touch all these different aspects, to different extent. It's not easy to have the full spectrum in a company, and gives a sense of fulfilment. I am happy at Inivata, I feel challenged, I feel listened to and respected for my scientific and technical expertise, and for my ideas. I can shape the development of the products within the R&D, and this is rewarding and intellectually stimulating. I was doing well in academia before and did not know what to expect, but so far I find this great.

Cons

- The interaction with the US side is not always easy: especially regulatory / QA, project management and business development have requests that, even if reasonable, are not always communicated clearly and timely. It's a joint responsibility from both UK and US site, not blaming any part, but something to improve. - Senior management people sometimes change their mind too often (I guess it's quite common in companies, but it's none the less disruptive), product specifications are not always communicated very clearly and they keep changing in some cases, following external comments (advisory boards, conferences, clinicians, market research) rather than a pre-defined solid path.
