Pros

Easy job, laid back, flexible.

Cons

Racist! Discriminatory, very unprofessional, low pay. They do not care about their employees unless you are buddies with the higher ups.

Pros

Lots of time off, good benefits, unlimited intrinsic rewards, wonderful individuals, a true family atmosphere, great training environment, learning and education encouraged, and great growth potential for anyone willing to put forth the effort.

Cons

Pay rate is limited and subject to political climate based on state budget. It takes time to learn professional distance vs. the role that families play in the lives of individuals and appropriate boundaries to prevent burnout.

Pros

Helping people with disabilities helps you to be a better person. You feel good inside. Good job for college students who aren't looking for anything permanent. Great benefits and generous time off.

Cons

Managers/Senior Managers in group homes can often go unchecked and can overlook policies for favored employees (The ones who will kiss their butts) and enforce them with employees that dont promote their Managers. Most of the Managers are looking to move up in the ranks and to make themselves look better and will often push more work on the direct care staff and then claim credit for making something "more efficient ". If you dare to go against upper management for being mistreated they will find a way to trump up things against you and "sell you down the river" meaning move you around to different houses until you finally get tired of it and quit.
