Pros

Salary - the MD has to pay well to attract anyone to work there (but no amount is high enough to put up with all you have to endure there)

Cons

The MD/owner of the business. Regardless of how high the turnover (100-200% of staff), however unhappy the staff and the poor reviews, she is unable/unwilling to take any personal responsibility and change for the good of her employees. It is a depressing place to work with a culture of fear that I have never experienced even a fraction of at any other employer. The MD controls everything. You are ‘encouraged’ to share your passwords to everything including LinkedIn, so they can post on your behalf. Employees emails are looked at regularly by the MD & picks up on the smallest thing if you are out of favour. It is a waiting game to see who will be next to be the next victim…. The social media/marketing from Loch is quite frankly laughable as all posts regarding good people management & training are not in evidence at all within the company. The MD’s mood that day dictates the general atmosphere in the office. You can tell as soon as you walk in the door what kind of day it will be. The only good days are when she is out of the office. It is such a shame as Loch have had some great employees who genuinely want to do a good job for the MD & company in general, but do not last there as they either cannot bear how they are treated or the MD has turned against them (the majority of the time, unfairly). As no one lasts long, many have less than 2 years service so no recourse for terrible treatment. It really is very depressing to witness such shockingly poor people management. Those that do remain are good people & probably feel trapped l, do not work at the Tunbridge Wells office or have worked there since a young age & have been conditioned to accepting (& participating in) poor practices. This review is no reflection on those people. They are just trying to do a good job under very very difficult conditions. Unfortunately the poor reviews of this company are accurate. The good ones were from new employees who are ‘encouraged’ to post reviews to boost the average feedback scores. You only need to see how often you see job adverts for Loch to realise the turnover is so high. They are not ‘growing’ as they claim on adverts, they are replacing yet another employee or 3 that have either walked or been pushed out. I can only encourage anyone considering working at Loch to look elsewhere. A decent salary is not compensation enough for an awful place to work. You can do better!

Pros

The interview process is easy (I now understand why).

Cons

I was extremely excited to be offered a position at Loch Associates which appeared to be a fantastic, female founder, local success story. However, I had some concerns after seeing the Glassdoor reviews, which were not good and suggested the CEO was not a nice woman and people were treated badly. I had also been told the same stories through my business network in the local Tunbridge Wells community. However, being a grownup, and understanding that these review sites are tough for small businesses, I gave the CEO and the company, the benefit of the doubt, and requested a meeting to discuss the reviews and hear their explanation (note that the only positive reviews this company has had were added after my meeting in July 2023). I was told the reviews were from competitors and not real, and/or from a few disgruntled ex employees However, this turns out not to be the case. After accepting an offer, I handed in my notice to mt previous employer ( who I had worked for for 2 years) they counter offered me which I rejected, and I also turned down several other opportunities to join Loch, I kept them abreast of the updates on my start date which was proving difficult to agree, they said this was ok. Please note, I have had continuous employment for 18 years since graduating so have never been out of work, ever. Two weeks prior to my start date at Loch, I received a letter from a HR person I'd not been dealing with, completely out of the blue, saying my offer has been revoked. The letter stated I had not sent my references or a signed contract back (I had done both). I tried to call the CEO directly who I was reporting into, and had met with several times through the process all being positive meetings, she refused to speak to me, and has not responded to any emails, despite me explaining she has left me in an awful situation with no job and a complete lack of understanding on what happened. I politely requested a phone call to at least discuss the matter, but received no response. I have been ghosted by the CEO and this company ever since. I'm a head of HR with 20 years experience, I have never treated a person this way or left them effectively jobless and/or been too cowardly to even call and explain why the offer was being revoked. I now have less than 2 weeks to find a new role having never been out of a job in my entire career. The CEO's reputation as a bully and a person with no morals, sadly seems to be true. I'm writing this not because I'm bitter; I've clearly had a lucky escape! But because I wouldn't want anyone else to find themselves in the same situation. There's no smoke without fire, a lesson I've sadly learnt from this awful experience, so please be cautious with this company as they haven't given a seconds thought to the awful situation they have put me, a hardworking human being, with two children, a mortgage and the need to be earning.,

Pros

The quality of work is excellent. Really passionate people working hard to achieve the best results for their clients. A fantastic and supportive team at all levels. Exposure to a full range of employment law issues both contentious and non-contentious means great experience for all fee earners. Opportunities to develop advocacy skills and take responsibility for own caseload. The Company is keen to invest in and expand career opportunities for its employees and there are numerous opportunities for development within a supportive environment. A focus on networking means great connections are developed and as a result a high number of repeat high profile clients.

Cons

Town center location means you can spend far too much in your lunch hour!
