Parent company CHS is terrible

Pros

People and co-workers. There are a lot of people here that truly care.

Cons

Owned and ran by one of the worst companies ever. No raises, no bonuses, no advancement, very expensive insurance, No holiday pay. Forced to cover multiple departments and responsibilities due to being understaffed. Treated as a number and not an employee. Every position in the hospital is severely understaffed. The way CHS treats people is shameful. Turnover is extremely high due to this. Facility is old and falling apart and they don't want to spend money to fix it. Forced to take time off and to use your vacation to supplement 40 hours for yourself. CHS has very dirty tactics when it comes to employees and patients. It's sad because their are some great people that work here and truly care. Problems with CHS have been well documented and announced in the local media as well. Buyer beware!

Pros

This job at St. Joseph Hospital (www.stjoehospital.com) has provided me with consistent and stable income. Our base pay, not including benefits, is reasonable. Their policies and standards regarding job performance are lax. They do offer one small cup of regular coffee free per shift. They also offer a fitness program that allows you free access to their in-house gym 24 / 7.

Cons

The benefits offered are not comprehensive overall. Mental health benefits are not updated regularly and are routinely limited to religious counseling. Health and work environment benefits such as maternity leave, birth control, fertility therapy, and lactation rooms specific to women are essentially non-existent. Basic health benefits are questionable, as many of the providers have the option to bill as either Lutheran Network OR private practice. This is surprising considering the majority of staff in all areas appear to be female. The opportunity for continued education, such as obtaining certification, is only available to nursing staff or administrative staff hoping to obtain their Master's degree in order to fill a specific position within the company. Although it is legal in Indiana to work uncertified in some positions within the healthcare field it is in the best interest of employers to certify their staff. Their online presence and networking options are completely absent. These items are critical in this modern age for any successful career.
