Pros

Nice location, beautiful campus, many services and levels of care. Once was the best and a facility that I used to recommend.

Cons

Masonicare until recently was a great place to work. Residents and employees were respected and the care was well coordinated. The nurses and CNA's treated the residents like family and worked as a team. The doctors and social workers were accessible and communicated with residents, families and the team. There were lots of meaningful and fun activities for residents. It is easy to care for residents and rehab patients who are satisfied and staff has time to stop and relate to them. There have been major changes in administration and they have introduced a phoney culture to replace the long standing Masonic atmosphere of collaboration and sincere respect. They have fired or harassed employees who have been there a long time into quitting. They have cut back coverage and hired young inexperienced staff. The response to other complaints has been to talk to HR. That must be a joke because HR is complicit in driving staff out and humiliating dedicated workers who really care about the residents. It is really tragic how the change in leadership and their callous regard for the staff and residents has destroyed a once well respected facility. The administration has a five year plan to build upscale retirement communities for private pay and are sacrificing the long term care services and rehab to reach their delusional goals. The word is out in the community and Masonicare's reputation has been tarnished.

Pros

Nobody knows how to manage so I guess that provides some flexibility and autonomy? Don't expect to be rewarded or compensated though for doing a good job.

Cons

Terrible and toxic work environment. Went through nightmare experience after nightmare experience regarding terrible management and high turnover with both management and staff. People at the top are dishonest and have zero integrity. Bullying and microagression is well tolerated even with it being reported. Many narcissistic personalities and egos to contend with. Many hardworking employees have not received raises in years. So much bad behavior is swept under the rug. Please save yourself and find another job! It's not worth it. The service lines are a mess and their pay is very disappointing. If they dare give you what you ask for expect to sell your soul for that salary. And they'll only cough up because they are desperate. Overworked and underpaid is the culture.

Pros

Until management change it has one of the most respected long term care and rehab facilities in CT, with every kind of service conveniently located on a beautiful accessible campus. HR was available to resolve complaints and conflicts. Patients and staff were caring and had with genuine relationships. The wishes of residents and families were respected. There was a quality of life for residents and staff. I can no longer refer friends and family to Masonicare in good conscience.

Cons

Under new management Masonicare has lost it's long standing genuine culture and has been subjected to a make-over with the imposition of a phoney culture, cut backs, positions being eliminated, firing dedicated employees including one who worked there for 49 years. Two employees died last month after being subjected to stressful conditions. Every negative review says see HR which is a joke since they now act as the executioner rather than problem solvers. Notice that positive reviews are written by recruiters who are very young and replacing dedicated workers with young inexperienced applicants who are put in management roles.
