I have been working at Merkle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People - Great, fun, smart people.
Pace of Change - Merkle is growing ridiculously quickly which might not be right for some people but for those who are willing to get stuck in, be positive and work collaboratively to bring about positive change, Merkle is the place to be.
Extras - we get free breakfasts and fruit each day and alcohol on Fridays, there's yoga/Pilates once a week paid for by the company, Socials every month. There's just tons going on and to get involved in.
Plus, I have a pretty good work life balance, most days I see reception on the way out the office before 6pm and I start at 9am.

    Cons

Pace of Change - I know I put this in my Pros but the pace of change here isn't for everyone. There are people working on bringing numerous acquisitions, and therefore processes, systems and ways of working, together but this is still in a state of flux which can be a challenge to navigate when all you want to do is get on with the job at hand. That said, we're building an awesome plane whilst we're flying it but understandably some people don't like turbulence!

Lack of clear direction from leadership, the leadership could do more to bring to life the company strategy and help us to understand the role we all play in it.

    Advice to Management

    Communicate more to your employees.
Set clear expectations for all employees from the top-down.

I have been working at Merkle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

+ The people make Merkle. I love being surrounded by talented people at the top of their game. There's lots of knowledge sharing and cool clients to work with.
+ The social and collaborative culture. We really do work hard, but there are so many opportunities to make friends and enjoy socialising. We recently went on a trip to the Tower of London and played crazy golf.
+ The training and career progression. Structured training for new joiners and an opportunity to move up with your strengths and interests considered. Lots of management catch ups so you can communicate how you're doing.
+ Flexible working. I can WFH or flex my work day to start earlier / later. Merkle seem to understand that we're human! I leave on time almost every day.
+ 4:Thirsty drinks on a Friday! And free lunch every month!

    Cons

    - Merkle's acquiring businesses and as a result the cultures don't always match. The offices can feel a bit disjointed. My advice would be to ask the teams you're interviewing with about their culture, work-life balance etc.

    Advice to Management

    Keep communicating!

I have been working at Merkle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - People development and progression is the upmost priority at Merkle, - something I have experienced myself
    - Fantastic learning and development opportunities
    - Opportunities to expand skillets into areas of interest
    - Multi tool-kits and learning tools to up-skill, with access to management coaches and technical experts for trickier topics.
    - They always change and adapt, taking stock of where improvements could be made and working to make it better for everyone working here and the clients

    Cons

Even though there has been an attempt to retain the family culture, it has naturally lost some of this feel given the huge growth the company has been through since I started.

    Cons

I worked at Merkle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Scale, expertise, organisational clout, access to DAN

    Cons

The US Corporate culture has permeated hard. Consistent with its philosophy, the creative (in recruitment terms, culture and soul) is far inferior to the targeting (sourcing the best expertise). The net result is an agency of clones; while deeply knowledgable in their field, they lack individuality, identity and personality. Targets, unsurprisingly, are prioritised over ideas, innovation or lateral thinking. This means conformity, short-term profitability and corporate back-scratching will be regarded as preferable to curiosity and aspiration to produce great work.

    Advice to Management

Think beyond the earn-out. Try to avoid sky-diving any more US staff at senior levels - it's alienating the UK culture. Undo your top collar, avoid corporate jargon and start behaving less like a machine and more like a collective. Perhaps it's too late...
