I worked at Merkle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Scale, expertise, organisational clout, access to DAN

    Cons

The US Corporate culture has permeated hard. Consistent with its philosophy, the creative (in recruitment terms, culture and soul) is far inferior to the targeting (sourcing the best expertise). The net result is an agency of clones; while deeply knowledgable in their field, they lack individuality, identity and personality. Targets, unsurprisingly, are prioritised over ideas, innovation or lateral thinking. This means conformity, short-term profitability and corporate back-scratching will be regarded as preferable to curiosity and aspiration to produce great work.

    Advice to Management

Think beyond the earn-out. Try to avoid sky-diving any more US staff at senior levels - it's alienating the UK culture. Undo your top collar, avoid corporate jargon and start behaving less like a machine and more like a collective. Perhaps it's too late...

I have been working at Merkle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good range of client work in different fields
    Beautiful office and great location

    Cons

The office is quite segregated and career progression is quite difficult to manoeuvre.
Career paths are not straightforward to build on, and promises are not always kept.

    Advice to Management

Managers appear almost secretive and lack transparency at times - be more open with members of their team.

    Pros

    - Opportunity to work with well-known brands, which is a good experience to have and will look good on your CV

    - Career progression opportunities are quite good at Merkle (mainly due to the rapid growth of the company and relatively high staff turnover)

    Cons

    - Poor work/life balance

    - Training and personal development not taken seriously

    - Micro-management

    - Ridiculous timekeeping & task scheduling system

    - Difficult to navigate, mainly due to its organisational structures and processes not keeping pace with the huge growth (a lot of acquisitions)

    - Outdated, poorly understood, under-funded, under-maintained and unreliable legacy systems, which are no longer fit for purpose

    - Benefits package below the current market standards, especially for the IT industry

    - Rewards rarely linked to individual performance
