Better for clients than employees

Pros

The mission is great. At first glance, it seems like a fantastic place to work, and demand for mental health services is so high, they can make a lot of mistakes and still see some success.

Cons

The worst employment situations are when a company’s leadership team have mastered the language of how to sound like an awesome employer but the actions don’t match. In this case, the people in charge demonstrate a consistent lack of empathy about how changes affect employees. It isn’t enough to talk about “Finnish work values” when the management decisions exhibit the worst of U.S. corporate values: authoritarian management style, lack of transparency, shifting priorities, and uncertain income.

Pros

Flexible, startup experience, lots of autonomy, many wonderful people work there

Cons

Sadly, I watched this group devolve from it’s original, Finnish values into a bottom-line driven American company. Leadership makes rash decisions which have led to a vicious cycle of harm. The company seems to perform best with a skeleton crew of burnt out folks which is quite ironic when their product is meant to treat burnout. When they can afford to hire and scale, they overdo it and end up laying off tenured people who have poured into the company whilst retaining new hires to save money. They forced a return to office against employee’s wishes and all those wasted funds contributed to another mass layoff. There’s a culture of rewarding the founder’s Finnish besties regardless of their work performance while others have to fight incredibly hard for growth.

Pros

I've been with Metu Health long enough now that I can say with full sincerity -- this team truly lives their values. Each person on the team is genuinely committed to the mission to empower 10 million people suffering from mental health challenges by 2027. The leadership and culture are terrific. The mission is personal, people here genuinely believe in their work, and do it with enthusiasm and positivity. People here put their heart into their work and enjoy working with each other. I have experienced nothing but openness, accountability, and stellar communication. Trust is real here. The commitment to integrity is at the core of everything we're doing as individuals and as a company. I have experience demonstrations of courage regularly with people taking risks and confronting the uncertain, as well as believing in ourselves and our dreams. Courage is also about doing the right thing, even when it confronts established paradigms. (Did I mention the integrity?) Compassion is a BIG value at Meru Health. Through our work, and corporate social responsibility efforts, this team is reducing suffering for people with depression, empowering them with tools they need to improve their lives. The clinical research is proving outstanding results. I am extremely proud to be a part of this team and encourage others whose values are aligned with Meru's to consider joining us.

Cons

Nothing I have identified still.
