Avoid - Scam Program

Pros

You can live in NYC for a year if you are lucky.

Cons

The program is essentially a scam for the few employees to take money off of your wage and make you pay for the pleasure. They will likely tell you all about their many internships across loads of industries but the truth is that they have lost most of the placements in the last few years. They just lost Citibank which was more than 75% of the 30 person program when I attended. - They have only got internships with Fevertree and some JP Morgan (which will likely end soon after the awful organization from the program.) They have about 10-15 places but won't tell you that before you pay $1000 to sign up. - The JP Morgan program is based in NJ not NY and they restrict you from accessing any career development/job opportunities. The people that worked there hated it and no one stayed on afterwards. Also the managers there are horrible and threatened to deport multiple people for requesting to attend the NY offices. You will also do nothing interesting, it is a back office role working with semi-retired 50+ year olds with no opportunities. - The "organizers" are awful people. They will not respond to any concerns and are only interested in making money off of you. People nearly got shot in our accommodation and a homeless man died in the building but they didn't even respond to emails. They will place you in a really sketchy neighbourhood that had multiple shootings and robberies while I was there.

Pros

You get to spend a year in New York.

Cons

1) The management staff are incompetent and will gaslight you anytime you have a grievance. They do not have your best interest at heart. 2) Accommodation: There were multiple shootings on our street, several break ins, and someone broke in and overdosed in the common area's bathroom. They are still placing people here, a clear lack of duty of care. 3) Very low salary. I now see it is unpaid despite them making a full salary from the host organisation. They will say they are not for profit (as if this makes them a charity) but their revenue is available online and speaks for itself. 4) Career prospects: No networking opportunities were provided. They actively tried to block several people being taken on full time afterwards due to their contract with the host organisation have a clause that means hiring has to be approved by them. London Programme: I have seen that the program is now unpaid, it is illegal to have unpaid internships in the UK hence they are calling it shadowing now. It would be cheaper for you to apply for a visa and get a proper paid internship/job. If you are eligible for Mountbatten you are likely eligible for the High Potential Individual Visa.

Pros

Great opportunity to live and work (near) NYC, and if you are outgoing and extroverted, you will have a great time.

Cons

Very little money, and the certificate and tuition are not good - avoid this if possible. Feels a bit like a gap year, and lots of people are young - I'd really recommend this for a year, or a few years out of uni, but anything later you will feel ancient - some really good gem placements there, but worth being picky in the interview stages to get a good placement.
