Pros
Incredible learning curve. Starting with a PhD in Biology, I ended-up one year later establishing setting-up strategic marketing plans and selling capital equipment to big pharma accounts for 3 different clients. Helped me secure a permanent BD position in a leading biotech company
Cons
Lot of traveling, lot of work. I was also working in home office away from HQ: much flexibility but sometime hard to benefit from the team

Pros
You are quickly exposed to the business world and by necessity rapidly learn how to conduct business in the life science sector. You gain valuable insight into what it takes to get a SME off the ground.
Cons
Workload is horrific. The managers overpromise deliverables to the client and put the burden of hitting those impossible targets on you. Since you work from home there is no start and end of the day, you just work until you have enough done that you can get something else done the next day. You are made to feel guilty about taking days off, and sometimes days off become work days "because thats the way it is and the needs of the business come first"!?
