Pros

Compensation and benefits are above average. Lots of perks like quarterly massages for employee wellness.

Cons

Workplace culture has become extremely toxic within the main department undergoing change. Everyone is afraid of losing their job so the culture has become antagonistic to creativity, peer support and the development of trust. Top leader actively supports this by making it extremely obvious who their select favourites are and everyone else is put in the box of "not getting it" or basically irrelevant and dumb. Never have I worked somewhere where the leader makes it SO obvious as to who they like and do not like. This department effectively functions as a two-tier system of people the leader makes clear are much more valuable and more important than the rest who are essentially silenced. Watch out, if you're someone who they doesn't like/believes adds value then your opinion, skillset, experience, expertise is basically irrelevant.

Management is a boys club

Pros

Benefits. That’s about it. Benefits are amazing, the perks are amazing! Pension!!!

Cons

Where to start? Long story short: - upper management is full of men who’ve created a boys club, spending money without limitations on irrelevant education, trips, dinners, and expensing it ALL. - low salary, lack of respect for overworked junior staff - staff are fired all the time with no remorse or explanation - the people that are “in” with mgmt are the ones to get promoted otherwise eventually booted out - staff are berated by mgmt while the favoured ones stroll in at 10:30am and leave whenever without consequence - very slow movement of work - company looks like all they do is health and wellness activities, team building, basically all fun and no play....oh but only for the ppl that are in the club :-) - mgmt making 80% of the company’s accumulated salary- what???? I understand office politics and lack of transparency from upper mgmt are not uncommon but OHA has such good potential, unfortunately it’s too crowded with manipulative people who are somehow getting by with doing nothing, making a fortune, and getting free vacations out of it all.

A Mess.

Pros

Generous benefits package. Some smart and friendly staff. This organization has attempted to modernize in recent years, however, this is a slow transition; with a toxic work environment, transformation is nearly impossible.

Cons

Lack of Opportunity: If you are a young person looking to work hard and 'work your way up,' look elsewhere. This is a small organization that is only getting smaller. Favouritism and nepotism are shockingly blatant, rampant and continue for years. Rewards System: Almost no opportunities for bonuses and pay increases for junior/lower paid employees. Senior staff take home massive salaries - almost as much as some hospital CEOs. (Reminder, OHA is a small, non-profit organization.) General environment/culture: People are fired ALL THE TIME. Sometimes without a word or an email about it. People who are left behind exist in a culture of fear; keeping braves faces while they believe they’ll be next in line. With everyone too afraid to speak up, only one or two people get to run with ideas (which appears to be what leadership is going for). Flexibility: OHA only recently made certain IT systems changes making remote work possible. While this is a step in the right direction, the culture and structure of the organization make it nearly impossible for full adoption to take place. For instance, some People Managers are not on-board with the new working from home policy, so you may not be able to enjoy this ‘perk’ if you happen to be on one of those teams.
