OSV Derry - A sinking Ship.

Pros

Good Benefits and Good Pay – If you can talk the talk. Great Building. Great Infrastructure, Great Location = Great potential Let’s be clear - OSV has the best intentions to become a staple business in EMEA. That should be respected. OSV will succeed in their goal in their core EMEA service centre when they stay true to their values and stop making the same mistakes. again, and again and again…………

Cons

While you make more officers, your employees are jumping overboard. A very bad business practice. In two years you have yet to figure out why you are failing. It very simple = Culture. The EMEA Service Centre is in Derry and culture is at our back bone. We are a family. The core site is being run remotely out of London. All new roles are based in London. So it is no wonder why employees think the Derry site is being left to die, with the end expectation being that all remaining employees after the purge will work from home and the site will ultimately close. Most employees even believe that this is the aim which is simply not true. Employees have watched their entire support structure be removed before their eyes and expected to believe it is in their best interest. No HR. No I.T No operations. No Facilities. No H&S and no Administration. It has also been said many times that the latest Management advancements have become a boys (Gentleman’s) club which has been observed numerous times. If you can fall into this Cliq then you can succeed but titles are handed out as a means to create structure of favouritism while bypassing all N.Ireland Laws and Legislations surrounding employment. If not already, the organisation will be subject to fines issued by governing bodies of N.Ireland’s employment practices. What’s even more concerning is the reputation of OSV among the entire professional establishment of Derry. The Company has become known as the second worst place to work in the city and growing employee numbers locally will become difficult if not impossible unless the community base is re-established.

Pros

Office located in city centre, purpose built spacious office, decent benefits package.

Cons

OSV setup in Derry seems to lack any preparation or forward planning, all seems to be conducted on the fly. Poor local management & HR departments that seems to lack basic communication and people skills. Bonus set up is a joke, looks attractive on paper but is set up in such a way its impossible to achieve. Performance management is grossly unfair, doing all work on time to high standard will result in a low score. Company wide communication is the worst i have ever seen, news drips out through gossip and rumour, with often no official communication announcements.

Thank you for the review. I am thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the city centre working location, the spacious working facility and excellent benefits. I appreciate your input and suggestions for improvement at our Derry location. I’d like to address some of your observations and suggestions. I would agree with you that there was some lack of preparation in the setup for the Derry office. We have worked hard over that past year to ensure that the EMEA region and particularly the Derry service centre is properly structured and managed. We have gained input from the entire team and have built a clear strategic plan for the region which contains specific strategic and tactical goals. Derry is a key part of our ongoing business strategy as an organisation and will be effectively supported to ensure that we are successful in the execution of our goals. One of the key initiatives for us going forward is to provide clear and consistent communication to the entire team to allow full transparency into the progression of our strategic objectives. We have also set up a two way communication structure to allow for team member input and response to that input. We are also diligently working on a strategy for clear goal setting and performance to proactively manage talent/career progression. I appreciate your perspective and welcome continued input.

Pros

Excellent benefits is about all this company has going for it

Cons

Trainers were not actually trainers but just analysts. No people skills and thought they were something, big egos in a company that purport not to have egos. Others would walk over you and were unhelpful, each person for themselves, company values are a laugh when nobody stands by them

Firstly, thank you for your review. I am glad to see that you perceive OSV’s commitment to our team members through the offering we provide around benefits. We feel that it is important to make sure our team has the proper balance of work and personal life. I am truly sorry to hear that you think there are big egos that exist in the EMEA region. We encourage all of our team members to demonstrate their strengths and potentially that could be perceived in a negative way. We will take that into account as we continue to build and develop our teams. It also troubles me to hear that you perceive your previous colleagues to be unhelpful. As part of our newly implemented strategy for growth, we have carefully built in collaboration points to ensure that everyone has the level of support needed to excel in their role. I personally love the quote that you provided in your bit of advice. Interestingly enough, all organisations have wheat and chaff and clearly the wheat usually tends to be more valuable. I would respectfully disagree with you that it’s mostly chaff as we have clearly attracted talent to OSV (wheat). Our goal is to figure out how to make the chaff more valuable. I regret that you did not stick around to enjoy the output of a great crop.
