Pros

Mostly a lovely firm. Mainly nice people and a supportive culture with friendly and varied clients.

Cons

PEM was a great place to work until a few people from other firms joined. They have deliberately caused trouble by making complaints about the culture ,supported by one partner particularly. There is lots of stuff below about ladishness but I don’t know what you can expect when you employ lots of lads. It is not something that I have ever found to be an issue. Before Xmas 2022 the whole audit team was treated to a lecture by the managing partner and another. This was patronising and overblown and because of ‘confidential’ complaints that a few people made and then told everyone about. SOOOO hypocritical when the most sexiest post ever seen was sent around on LinkedIn by the marketing team. The partners talk about culture but they set that and a lot of them are never even there. One of them picks up his kids every day at 3.00pm and the managing partner is the most absent person in history. The staff refer to him as a ghost. One partner acts like a headmistress and treats everyone like kids and is not respected.

Misogynistic, lad culture

Pros

Partners put their cards behind the bar on every social

Cons

Management are aware of the deep routed misogyny at every level of the Audit and Accounts team. The laddy culture is hard to put up with. Socials involve excessive drinking during work and networking events and the office culture is just lad behaviour, derogatory comments towards women and poor behaviour in general. Male colleagues are given more opportunities and quicker promotions. From male only networking and drinking socials with the partners to discuss their career progression to sexist jokes about women, no behaviour or topic seems to be too inappropriate. Anyone who doesn’t agree with the behaviour is an outsider who is too sensitive. Towards the end of 2022, they did mandated training for the Audit and Accounts team on misogynistic behaviours, which included a full page of names currently being used that you should not to refer to women as and behaviours that aren’t acceptable. That didn’t stop anything. HR, the Managing Partner and the whole partner group know it’s a massive issue. Those that reported incidents were told to keep their heads down and all who were openly known to have reported it have left the company within 6 months due to being ostracised. I’m embarrassed to say I worked here. Women deserve better in 2023, do better.

Pros

Very supportive when it comes to training with high quality tuition which helped me through my exams. There are plenty of opportunities to progress internally as well. There’s a brilliant atmosphere which facilitates good working relationships. PEM have a culture which encourages socialising with colleagues inside and out of work with opportunities such as pottery classes, trips to Cambridge Mosque and regular pizza nights! Moreover, the partners throw great events such as pub quizzes, Christmas, Summer and leaving parties. These are just some of the benefits I’ve experienced which made work life so enjoyable and allowed me to build strong friendships (it really is what you make of it!) Overall there’s a very positive culture which provides a brilliant environment to work in.

Cons

PEM are growing quickly while lacking the resources to do so harming work life balance, however, managers and partners encourage charging overtime which isn’t common at other firms.
