Pros

There are a lot of friendly people so it isn't hard to make friends and be social outside the office. You get to be involved in sports all day Brand new and exciting industry

Cons

The CEO is rude, abrasive and the least inspiring leader I have ever worked with. All he cares about is his inner circle of friends who all happen to be Aussies. The more time you spend here the more you realize this guy is way over his head. The inner circle leads to a lot of high school drama around who gets invited to events and such. This drama leaks out to normal employees and you can't help but laugh at the ridiculous of it all. This is supposedly a billion dollar publicly listed company but the CEO runs it like its a privately run small business. Absolutely no professionalism. The unofficial second in command, who happens to naturally be the CEOs best bud and of course an Aussie, is another one way over his head and I think he knows it. He makes up for that by getting involved in every minor detail across all departments, except for legal, Hr & finance (and no surprise those 3 departments are the least chaotic). Unfortunately he is completely untouchable and nothing will ever change while he is basically running the show. You can't doubt his passion but he is more of a liability than an asset. No culture whatsoever. Management couldn't care less about keeping employees happy. This results in high turnover of staff which management spin to blame the employees leaving. Below average pay, average PTO and hours are insane for the lack of compensation. No strategy whatsoever - they literally slap sport team logos, league logos, pictures of one of the 10 brand ambassadors on advertising and assume that will magically bring in customers. When that doesn't work everyone doubles down ("well we just need to use those logos more!!") on what they have been doing. This all results in market share being abysmal in every state the business launches in.

One of the worst data cultures I've ever seen. In my two years there, I had never seen a person whose primary responsibilities involved data receive a promotion. They will take advantage of the fun outside perception that comes with working for a sportsbook in order to pay you below market rate. You will also not be promoted within your personal career advancement timeline* *Unless you're an Aussie who gets drunk on the weekends with the CEO. Politics have run rampant, with European execs jockeying for power within the company and taking down whatever American employee is in their way. Worth noting the European execs have not added any tangible value to the company other than an overreliance on Microsoft Powerpoint, while the stock has dropped by 80% since they joined. The CEO and other execs run around the country to speak on whatever podcast will give them a platform to brag about the "in house tech stack". The reality is that the tech is bad and leadership knows it, so they are just praying that fanatics acquires them before they run out of money. HR here is the worst I've ever seen it. If you face a political struggle against a power hungry exec, they will do absolutely nothing about it even when presented with an overwhelming amount of evidence. The company outsources jobs to Manilla, Philippines where they pay people pennies on the dollar compares to American employees. If you work in BI or analytics, you'll be evaluated vs. the possibility of replacing you with 3 people in the Philippines.

PointsBet has some really cool, smart, hardworking and very dedicated employees that want to make a difference and see this place succeed.

Cons

What can I say--the US CEO is a major liability in this place. Unfortunately the US CEO is not up to the task of driving this business forward in a considered and strategic direction. Moral in this place is really struggling and as they say culture starts at the top and flows down. The US CEO is overtly rude and dismissive of a lot of staff and he has lost most of the little respect he had and has become a bit of a joke amongst staff. For this place to make inroads in the US it needs an experienced leader to get the team behind the company's goals and plans, but the current guy falls well short of bringing together the team. The rot has set in and needs to be stopped.
