    Pros

Overall a good company, good values, and good benefits. A lot of areas offer flex scheduling.

    Cons

Communication and consistency from management and across departments could definitely be improved.

I have been working at Premera Blue Cross full-time

    Pros

Company offers a nice pay and benefits package. Helping customers through difficult times in the medical world is rewarding. Many departments allow you to work in the office or remotely.

    Cons

There is a lot of change that occurs with very little notice or explanation. Certain departments comes with excessive micro management. Not the best work life balance. Although the pay was nice to start with, you are oftentimes assigned additional work that are for other departments so in reality, you are not fairly compensated for doing 2-3 different jobs.

    Advice to Management

Clear and honest communication to your employees about where the company is going and a notice of changes with a real explanation would be lovely.

I worked at Premera Blue Cross full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked with a GREAT team with fun banter and a helping hand when you needed it.
    --Good pay for the industry
--Telecommute options available for many positions
    --nice benefit package

    Cons

    --micromanagement
--intense favoritism practiced by team leads
--promotions based on your relationship with your team lead, performance and experience are not factors
    --HR not responsive to concerns/complaints
--Poor campus in dangerous neighborhood, with constant weed smoke drifting in through the vents. (Spokane campus)

    Advice to Management

Your CSR's are your lifeline. You need to spend more time streamlining processes and weeding out toxic management and less time adding random VP titles and constantly "restructuring". CSR's know far better than you what customers want and the best will not stay without appropriate recognition and opportunities. Also, if you had enough money to put up a brand new campus in an area where it wasn't needed, you had enough to move Spokane to a building in a neighborhood that isn't so dangerous that the night shift was allowed to work by telecommute only, and that doesn't constantly reek of pot.

I have been working at Premera Blue Cross full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It is refreshing to work for a company that is trying to make a difference in healthcare and truly cares about doing it right. Love the benefits; great medical plan as you would expect but also have a retirement plan and 401(k)!

    Cons

Sometimes too many meetings, but I have seen improvement.

I worked at Premera Blue Cross full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Trying the make healthcare better for the customer.

    Cons

When the CEO does not trust his own management team and vetoes a hire that is 4 levels below him, it’s clear that there is a problem amongst the ranks. It is a culture killer that will have a lasting impact. I’m not sure he even cares.

    Advice to Management

Invest in ALL of your employees. It’s your job.

I worked at Premera Blue Cross full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good salary for the region.

    Cons

Poor benefits. They provide federal minimum retirement. Entrenched management. Worse they do not support high utilization of benefits.

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep valuable employees you need to take a close look at the way you treat your sick. Denying coverage on high cost medication is a business decision not a people decision.

I have been working at Premera Blue Cross full-time

    Pros

Passionate people and the organizations commitment to the community.

    Cons

HR Leadership - the leader is more focused on politics than the health and development of her team. It’s clear which leaders she favors, their teams are growing and expanding. Others scrambling. Don’t expect development. Most teams are overworked to the point of illness.

    Advice to Management

Unless your goal is to drive employees away, you need to pay attention.
