I have been working at Prepay Solutions full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Fintech industry - amazing career development opportunity to increase your industry knowledge. You will be given opportunities here that you won't get many other places - a chance to excel and grow. Plenty of scope for internal transfer and promotions. Get to work with major international brands. Good training structure - and great company benefits. Very social and friendly atmosphere. This is a company that seems to keep reinventing itself as it grows and adapts to its success.

    Cons

Hard work and people expect a lot of you - for me that's a great thing. Avoid if you're scared of a challenge and want to spend all day fiddling your thumbs.

I worked at Prepay Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good salaries Nice perks like free fruit, monthly massage, social events with money behind the bar Great office location (for Swindon...) a few minutes from the station Some greenfield work working with modern tech (Spring Boot, containerised microservices) Strong product growth and revenue on a great trajectory Easy to turn up, deliver technically mediocre work held to quite low standards, and earn a living (if that's your thing) Pleasant, friendly people to work with

    Cons

Legacy tech: over a decade of technical debt piled up in horrible monoliths using framework versions the rest of the world has long forgotten about Fake agile: teams follow scrum rituals but have no culture of continuous improvement, no time is provided to make the situation better Developers have ceded control of planning work to the business, resulting in fixed work delivered to fixed deadline waterfall fun Deeply hierarchical culture - developers have little influence or ownership, you are insulated by a layer or two from department heads you've never spoken to who impose decisions on you around architecture, features and delivery. You are a programming monkey. Awful, painful build automation and environment setup Fixed release cycle, no continuous delivery, pressure to rush work out the door every x weeks Old-school developer/operations split: the two functions are entirely siloed, ops are overworked and unhappy trying to run their datacentre and devs throw work over the wall to them Awful code quality, written in a deeply procedural style with no helpful abstractions to manage complexity. Old-timer staff who don't know any better who perpetuate this style and block change through code reviews. Badly reinventing the wheel: there seems to be an ignorance of open source libraries and functionality already available in the frameworks in use, resulting in badly written in-house equivalents for common use cases Quality, passionate staff get frustrated by their inability to improve the above and burn out. The individual contributor with the most power/seniority is extremely argumentative I have never seen so many contractors quit within a few weeks of starting

I worked at Prepay Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Cons

long hours (12 hr shifts) + switch between days/nights (again, dependent on lifestyle this can be good or bad) some tasks were repetitive and tedious although lots of different daily tasks also

I worked at Prepay Solutions full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some opportunities to use some latest technology, Java 11, SpringBoot, Docker, Rest Team are friendly and there are many company events both official and non official. Fantastic benefits package Great location in the centre of Swindon Free Parking which is hard to find in a town centre. New communications team which has had a great impact on engagement New HR Structure which I believe wants to fix many of the problems that I have put in the cons section

    Cons

Some legacy software and code around, the older applications are in Java 7 and use SOAP Much of the code even in the new applications are written in a procedural style not following Best Practice It is very difficult to make positive changes, the management structure is against changes to improve quality of code or improve processes. The company says that it does SCRUM however it only does the daily standup ceremony. Planning is merely a dictator telling the developers what is in the sprint with no negotiation or refinement which means that Sprints are unachievable and increases pressure on the development team. The Development team is full of disenfranchised developers, the ambitious, hungry developers who want to improve things either leave the company after 1-2 years or less the shortest being 4 days the ones who do stay become so ground down that they no longer take pride in delivery. In the team that I worked out of 6 developers/testers 5 were actively looking for other jobs. Since a recent restructure the delivery teams are managed on a day to day basis very aggressive individual who thinks nothing of standing over someone with fists clenched shouting which I have witnessed and like most developers been a victim of. They manage the development team with a culture of fear and affects everyone in the office, it's not unusual to be torn away from work by their shouting. The development teams are micromanaged by leaders who have had little or no training in management and so micromanage and speak in a condescending tone, then the developer will have their tasks changed by another manager with no notice and be at odds with the task assigned previously. Going to a manager with a potential improvement is a no no, the manager who I worked for would take this as a personal insult and shout, be very defensive and make life very uncomfortable for you. This was the experience with the leader of my team that I had but I suspect others may be slightly different but improvements would get no further than them as they would hit stumbling blocks above them.

    Pros

Massages at work. Always Learning. Innovative.Great other Company Benefits.

    Cons

Managment retends to care about staff but nothing changes and the senior management needs to grow up and stop the small business mentality. The company is massive and growing but they only care about getting more projects than people to cope with them driving amazing people out the door.

I worked at Prepay Solutions full-time

    Pros

Good benefits package - massages, discounted gym membership, monthly breakfasts. Some great people and in general a fun and challenging place to work.

    Cons

Rather disorganised - priorities are constantly changing and there is often a lack of strong decision-making. Meetings often don’t happen or are constantly moved. Lack of communication and cooperation between teams.

I worked at Prepay Solutions full-time

    Pros

I can see all the negative reviews about management, but the truth is this company is trying hard to improve. It has many system faults but an excellent, talented stuff to find these issue in a complex system and fix. This is an incredible company, I've had a fantastic time working for it. People whom leave reviews on glassdoor are usually people who just want to complain about their firm. Do not listen to them, you'll have an amazing time here, and work with with few of the best people I've worked with ever.

    Cons

Pay is not the best, the company needs to try harder to keep hold of its best employees.
