Troublesome, hope your face fits!

Pros

• Nice hospice grounds. • Genuinely lovely volunteers & clinical staff who try their hardest for patients and often go above and beyond. • Good salary because people in Surrey are very generous.

Cons

• Wasting money on management upon management in unneeded jobs when the money could be better spent on patient care. • Toxic management in business side of things who are on power trips, who also want an easy life to keep their salary coming in so do nothing about casual racism, discrimination & bullying. • Pretend to be flexible, but really would prefer if you sat in the office 5 days a week (even if they don’t). • Old and outdated systems and ways of communicating with each other. • Management chumminess which felt like high school tactics to exclude other managers who they don’t like, • Genuine change scares management, people would much rather stick to the status quos and churn out the same outdated ideas. • Sometimes I witnessed such rudeness, unprofessionalism and cattiness behind colleagues backs but then management couldn’t deliver constructive criticism to their faces. You’ll be fine if it’s decided your face fits, and as long as you keep your head down, smile and don’t get ill (mentally or physically), have Dr appointments, get pregnant/take maternity or paternity leave & spend every last hour dedicating yourself to PAH without any thanks. • “People Services” aka HR are rude and unprofessional and so slow. • Education team are cold and unwelcoming.

Bad politics and management

Pros

Lovely Volunteers, fantastic hospice and nurses

Cons

As a volunteer all is good. Once you are employed it is a different story. I have recently been appointed to a part-time role (after volunteering for 3 months) as a sales assistant in one of PAH shops. Because of an issue in between shop manager and an aerea manager I was laid after only 1 month with very disappointing comments and criticism about my work. I was not expected such a treatment from such a good named charity. I was clearly a victim of a bad situation in between managers and PAH, first apologised to me and only 3 days later actually decided to get rid of me!! and on the top of it just a week before Christmas!! The manager in question has been criticised by all within the company and I was even prompted to put a grievance against him but decided that this was not worth my while after only a month! I have always been valued for what I do and this experience has come as a great shock and disappointment. I can only say that it is what it is and can only hope karma will do its course.

Pros

None. The business is toxic.

Cons

See above. There is actually too much to list. H&S. Training for non clinical staff a joke. Poor management. Toxic clique. Worst company I have ever worked for in 25 years. Disgusting as a hospice charity. The face is broken.
