Pros

Prolacta has been one of the best companies I have worked for. From my personal experience, I love the autonomy I am given to complete projects. My manager does not micromanage what I do on a day-to-day basis. I am given projects with meaning and I feel like I am contributing to the organization and I have purpose within the company. I am a working parent, and I have kids to attend to, Prolacta understands that natural interruptions will occur, and they are flexible with my schedule. But it really is more than that, I can tell that they are not only flexible and understanding with my home life, but they care that I am ok and that everyone in my family is doing well too. Apart from my experience, I love how the company really had made an effort to keep everyone connected and created a sense of community with everyone. In 2020 I was an employee that was onsite full time, when the pandemic hit, the company cut down the onsite staff to a skeleton crew to help minimize the unnecessary spread of outside contamination. This made me feel really safe, and that they cared about my well-being along with those that do need to be onsite. They also took the time to help us stay connected with each other with virtual events all throughout the year. Even though we were not together, I liked how they made us feel connected. Not only did they host events, but they also sent out tokens of gratitude throughout 2020.

Cons

Some of the down side about working at Prolacta is that sometimes I feel like I might get stuck in my hired role and that I cannot move forward with my career. Not because they do not want me to develop, but because they do not have the resources to hire someone to take on my old responsibilities.

Terrible people and politics

Pros

It is a good cause, albeit a for profit company. Also decent health care benefits. Some good people, but not many.

Cons

At Prolacta, it doesn’t matter how hard you work or how good you are at your job. What does matter is how well you can brown nose your way to the top. Politics, favoritism, and demeaning executives. They set unrealistic sales goals and the employees suffer. Honestly, this place is an HR nightmare waiting to happen. But don’t go complaining to HR— they won’t do anything. Employee morale is low. There is a reason why the turnover rate is so high. All the good employees have long left or are miserable. Most employees there are incompetent and selfish. No one is a team player. Left a few months ago and haven’t looked back!

We appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment so we can improve. We’d like the chance to make things right, and invite you to submit an anonymous note with details in the suggestion box, or email GrowWithUs@prolacta.com. As a company that has achieved rapid growth and success in recent years, we’ve experienced some growing pains that we have been actively addressing. We are not always perfect, but we try hard and are committed. For example, over the last year, we have listened closely to staff and taken action to open up frequent communication channels to keep all employees up to date on topics of interest, from newsletters and town halls to breakfasts, surveys and an open door policy with leadership. We have also put in place changes ranging from better holiday time off policies to improvements in the work environment in specific departments. We welcome more ideas for ways we can make our team feel supported so we can all focus on our critically important mission of helping fragile babies. Thanks again for taking the time to share your concerns.

Worst manager I have ever worked for

Pros

Good benefits make up for the mediocre pay. We're moving to a new building soon which will relieve the overcrowding. Prolacta is growing and they expect sales to go from $100M to over $300M in the next four years. They can barely manage the company at its current size. Good luck with that growth plan!

Cons

Worst manager I have ever worked for. S/he isn't supportive, creates dissention in the department and pits one employee against another. I have witnessed employees being breated publically and criticized for following standard business practices. Deadlines are set on a whim, despite what current capabilities are. This borders on a hostile work environment. They are setting up to go public so spending is all based on short term needs instead of long term planning. The company is a revolving door. Before you take a position there ask about the tenure of the people in your and other departments. From VP/C level on down they change frequently. That's not a good sign! I'm moving in a few months and look forward to the day I can tell them to "Take this job and shove it!"

Thanks for voicing your concerns. We take them seriously. Our rapid expansion, as you note, has brought with it an incredible amount of success, but also opportunities for internal growth. We welcome your suggestions. We have recently identified numerous actions to take based directly on employee input, and are proud to have put into place changes ranging from better holiday time off policies to improvements in the work environment in specific departments. Our CEO also holds candid discussions during popular monthly breakfasts with employees and has an open-door policy for all employees. As we grow as an organization, we want to continue to do our best to support the people who make saving babies’ lives possible. Feel free to share more details and suggestions at GrowWithUs@prolacta.com. Thanks again for your message, it makes us better. Prolacta, as you know, is the world’s leading hospital provider of 100% human milk-based nutritional products that are changing the standard of care for extremely premature infants. We are also now exploring the therapeutic potential of human milk across a wide spectrum of human diseases, including applications for infants requiring surgery for congenital cardiac and gastrointestinal disorders. We know that human milk - as opposed to cow milk - is the basis for saving lives, improving growth rates, and reducing hospital time for the most fragile of babies. As the only company doing this kind of work, our primary focus has been on safety, quality and improving the health of premature infants. In some ways, as you address, we have been catching up with our external success by laying some internal groundwork, belatedly.
