      Pros

I wasn't micromanaged. They help develop young, inexperienced employees.

      Cons

They cater to the young, unexperienced. They prefer to have people with under 5 years experience work there to keep salaries low. It's very political.

      Management unprofessional

      Pros

Flexible work hours, doesn’t track vacation, most people are nice

      Cons

Director took credit for work completed by their employees and ridiculed employee for speaking up for their work/credit, marketing management cared more about going to next conference and getting drunk, no training or guidance for your role as an employee, management has no real world experience for the department they are leading, in Littleton office there was dog vomit and feces from the CEOs dog that was never cleaned up unless the receptionist took care of it. Director took more vacation time than his entire department combined. Boss commted on a work trip that the sire of a homeless person made him physically ill then stsrted critiquing coworkers appearances. More than one occasion manager made comments that should have been handeled by HR but the representative in the office was of the same mentality about commenting on a woman’s appearance.

      Pros

      - R&D is a financially strong company, and provides a good opportunity for recent graduates to enter the industry and get experience developing and analyzing life science products. - Large product inventory and high quality standards. - Strong sales and initiative to develop new products. - Good health and dental benefits. - Good work/life balance.

      Cons

      - Career paths are poorly defined and advancement is unlikely without a PhD. - High turn over rate, many workers leave after 1-2 years to pursue better opportunities or graduate degrees in health sciences. - Company does not invest in new technology or implement technologies that would make work more efficient. - No employee incentive benefits (e.g. 401K match, discounted stock purchase plans, performance bonuses)

      Rewiew of R&D Systems

      Pros

Currently, there is good health coverage in place in comparison to most companies (although employee cost has gone up a bit in the last year). Technology-wise finally getting that updated (which at times has been a somewhat painful transition). Many employees have been here for quite a number of years.

      Cons

Has become a very corporate structure in the last few years which was not unexpected with arrival of new CEO; prior to that, had more of a smaller company feel and more little perks given to employees as thank you for appreciation of work done during/through the year (pizza parties, cookout on patio, $50 Christmas gift) and that feeling of appreciation of work being done has gone away.

      Pros

R&D is still a somewhat small group of working individuals where people share an enthusiasm for the betterment of the company. Contributions on an individual level can still have a big impact on company practices. Also, interdepartmental conversation is quite common and usually well received. There is a still a sense of excitement as the company reaches new milestones.

      Cons

For individuals with a focus on scientific advancement and ground breaking discovery R&D may fall short of their expectations. The opportunity to publish in the literature are few and far between and some of the resources that would be commonly found at many academic core facilities are not available at R&D. That said, the expectation to do this kind of work is not common in industry (nor should it be expected) and R&D does not hesitate to send samples elsewhere to get results that cannot be obtained in-house. The benefits package offered by R&D is outstanding. Their salary offerings could stand to be more competitive both locally and nationally. This may affect their ability to attract the most competitive candidates for new positions.
