The work culture at Refyne is toxic. Unnecessary politics and gossip, too much interference and constant demotivation and humiliation from the senior management, and an absolutely spineless HR team that can only parrot “company values”. There's zero work-life balance. People work 12-14 hours every day, plus 5-6 hours on Saturdays and Sundays, and still, the demands of the management cannot be met. And while everyone’s already overburdened and have no time to complete the existing work, the management will come up with new things to “try” almost every hour. “Ad-hoc work” is such an abused phrase in Refyne that the employees nowadays don’t even bother to waste time complaining about it! There’s no recognition of the fact that so many people sacrifice their personal time for the company, especially in the design and marketing teams. Those who routinely overwork just to deliver the mountain of work dumped on them every day don’t even get a look of sympathy. Ironically, they have a culture of “shoutouts” where the most applauded “value” is “Call of Duty”. And who are these Param Vir Chakra awardees? Anyone who pulled an all-nighter to find a solution to a problem, or worked while they were sick and couldn’t even get up from bed, or worked overtime every day for a quarter to deliver a product at the obnoxiously impossible timeline set by their manager, etc, etc. The management will ask you to share your problems so they can find solutions, but the moment a problem is presented, they'll turn it around as your fault. For example, if you say your team is overworked and need another resource, they'll say you are a bad manager and that the team is just bad at time management. The company is growing at a decent pace. But like all startups, they want to grow exponentially. Therefore, all targets are at impossible levels of 5x to 8x increase over the previous year, previous quarter, previous month, week, day, hour. The CEO's dream is to become profitable this year. And how dare the employees not make his dream their dream too! The CxOs are SO possessive about the company, that if they hear anyone complain about anything related to work, instead of constructive solutioning and an introspection of whether something is intrinsically wrong with the system, they hold town halls and tell people to 'go to hell if you think Refyne is a bad place to work; we don't need naysayers like you’. They don’t want any employee who is just doing their job well; they only want employees who can also become invested in the company, its services, and its CxOs. In the marketing team, they also have a habit of duping candidates by creating JDs that have no relation to the actual work on the ground. They’ll hire someone for a particular role and once they’re on board, any work lying around that no one else has the bandwidth to take up will get dumped on them. There are a lot of committed and hard-working people in Refyne. Sadly, most of these youngsters fall for the wrong belief that they have to overwork in order to achieve something. These become the CxO’s favourites, and are applauded as “the embodiments of the Refyne culture”. Refyne is no place for the average employee who just wants to do their best and then go home and get some quality time with the family or themselves and a peaceful night’s sleep. Oh, and interestingly, people are asked to moonlight with Refyne once they’ve cleared the interview, while they’re serving notice at their previous company. If you refuse, they’ll nag you so much that many eventually give in! So now you know why Refyne pays well—They are not hiring you, they are buying you into slavery.
