Pros

Most of the co-workers are friendly, supportive, and some are interested in solving interesting problems. Work-life balance is pretty decent the majority of the time (compared to other traditional consulting firms)

Cons

In agreement with most other assessments in here: dishonest, duplicitous, incompetent leadership -- beware. Business is adrift and leadership has not been able to achieve their growth goals. Instead of being honest and doing regular workforce reduction, leadership tries to maintain the mirage and they push people out with dodgy and surprising PIPs. They have abused this practice and the cat is out of the bag, provoking a morale problem inside. As the company falters, leadership becomes more interested in running a junior consultant bootcamp (following certain cookie-cutting powerpoint and briefing templates) instead of solving the clients' problems. The company talks a big talk about their values (great on paper) but it practices zero of it. The company has been driving away creative, experienced, and talented individuals and has been keeping instead very junior and inexperienced individuals; the problem is that the Rios leadership doesn't seem to have the talent to compensate for that.

Pros

The internal team structure is great most of the time

Cons

Biggest cons are leadership. What you need to understand is this company was started by former BCG employees who maintain too close of a relationship with the firm. 90% of your work will be partnering with BCG projects which sounds great until you realize you are working the same long hours as BCG employees but are getting paid a third of the salary. The most important thing to consider when applying to work at this firm is that it is only successful because of its relationship with BCG. As a result, leadership at Rios does anything that BCG says which means zero loyalty to its own employees, and often times, unethical practices that completely contradict the values preached by the company. Additionally, advancement in the firm is incredibly difficult as leadership works to maintain certain certifications like “Veteran-owned” or additional small business certifications that are only available if they have a certain number of people in different positions. Not a place where it is easy to climb the ladder unless you are popular.

We are proud to be Veteran owned. And while a majority of our contracts with the federal government involve partnering with other companies, BCG is not our largest partner. We hope your next position is more in line with what you're looking for.

Pros

Good work life balance; projects are overstaffed and there’s not much work to do. The firm is a vehicle for BCG to win federal contracts giving employees the chance to work on some high profile projects (albeit in non functional roles).

Cons

Directors are two-faced and dishonest about the firm’s performance and outlook. Private conversations are not always private; managers have been promoted due to favoritism and for boosting DEI numbers. The firm has two large contracts that most employees rotate on. Leadership has difficulty in attracting business. Expect teammates to disappear when pushed out by leadership. The firm is an implementation consulting company marketing itself as a strategy consulting firm.

While we remain committed to all AAP requirements from the Dept. of Labor, all promotion and termination decisions are based upon merit alone and not DEI attributes. We take performance management very seriously and we're sorry the process did not meet your expectations.
