Pros

WFH/Hybrid - big pro if you are pursuing other side hustles Messy startup culture - yes this is a pro, learn as much about any new software as you can, lay low and leave before they fire you for being a person with normal expectations for a work environment.

Cons

I actually don’t know what to say, I’m not even sure if it is a con, or just a really silly and immature way for grown adults to act. They do not have a training plan for any role. So beware. They operate like a team of entitled college brats who have been all put together for a team project. They do work with passion, yes. But they do not know what a work environment should be like. Making “jokes” which are quite weird and uncomfortable, like for example, laughing like school kids when someone sees the abbreviation “MC” (Minor Consent). The team lead actually encourages such jokes and is rather offended if you don’t try to “communicate” with them. I’m not sure they want employees or besties. I was let go within a week of my employment because “I did not vibe with the team”. I don’t think that being friends with rude and disrespectful coworkers should be a prerequisite for any job. I was picking up the processes without any formal training, I was logging in and out on time and if not, staying back after my out time to make up for the difference. I was taking an hour’s worth of break in a 9 hour shift (not all at once, broken up in smaller time frames). I was not happy with how I was being spoken to (disparagingly, after not being able to understand their entire backend process in like 3 days :/) and when I drew that boundary on the 31st of August, I was let go for not “fitting the vibe” the very next day. They couldn’t give me any reason, they said it was not about my work or my personality or anxiety issues, they just “don’t think that I would be able to handle the role”. When I probes further, the two senior employees simply dropped off the Huddle to avoid me. Please also note - I had not even started the work yet I was still learning the background processes. I asked them how they could make predictions on my work ethic, to which they said “no we know what works for us and you won’t be a fit, don’t take it personally”. I thought an interview was where you figured this stuff out but, okay 🫥 So it’s not my work, it’s not my anxiety, it’s not personal - then what was the reason 😂 Seems like I bruised someone’s fragile and tender ego. I hope you feel better soon P 💖

Disrespectful team and work culture

Pros

Basically only that you can work from home

Cons

The team and management is utterly disrespectful. They downplay the achievements of team members while over exaggerating their mistakes. They do not know how to give constructive feedback and utterly disrespect and disregard their employees. The top management will never accept their own mistake and only put it on junior employees within the team. While this company claims to be a mental health organisation, most of their employees are burnt out and unhappy. There is no work life balance as the top management will drop in messages and emails all throughout the night and expect that the work is completed before login time the next day. They have no respect for boundaries. No one wants to do their own work and everyone keeps putting all their work and burden on one individual. No clear role division ever takes place in this organisation and the excuse given for this when highlighted to the team is that "this is how it works in a start up". Employees are highly overworked and constantly disrespected in this company.

Senior management is unprofessional

Pros

- Will get to work on multiple projects and hone your skills - Flexibility to work from anywhere (if it's a marketing job, it's hybrid)

Cons

- Unprofessional behaviour from senior management and constant usage of words such as "you are failing", without giving proper advice and support (9/10 times even they don't know how to fix things themselves) - The senior management lacks the experience and qualifications needed and hence fail to set long-term goals. Feels like it's a side project for them as their team does much of the heavy lifting for them
