Pros

Office was close to home

Cons

Poor pay, everyone seems to be suffering from anxiety, stress, & overworking. Very old fashioned in their structure & no support for employees. There’s no HR dept here so maybe why employees feel unsupported & overworked. As with many small companies (I’ve worked for a few) there seems to be a culture of feeling threatened by any new talent, although they need to grow, they’re a small company with people who’ve been there for a very long time so there’s a constant feeling of insecurity & anxiety when any new person starts. Rather than inspiring confidence & support, they exude fear, anxiety, & stress. I also noticed that quite a few of the staff including some management don’t have BA or project management qualifications. Also, although they have a range of council projects going, they’re always ruled by one company in particular. So if you’re trying to get a project over the line, expect to be pushed to the back burner to make room for this one client’s requests. It’s completely ridiculous. After working with other companies since, I’ve been made to realise that this is poor & unsustainable business management. The only reason why they’re still going is because they claw to this one client’s needs constantly. They’ve not grown & will not green until they change their mindset & get the proper business setup & support they need to feel confident. Not the best place to start or continue your career in IT. I’m a contractor now and have worked for some really great companies & clients since.

Pros

Lovely, talented people who are always happy to help, Collaboration between teams is usually pleasant. Middle management do try their best for you despite leadership pressures. Ok place to start if you have no experience or technical skills.

Cons

Toxic work environment caused by leadership and HR, Employees and middle management very rarely will be listened to. You will be under constant stress and scrutiny day in/day out trying to keep up with unrealistic KPI's that constantly are changing whilst also trying to manage a high workload that easily becomes unmanageable due to the high volume of work. Tendency for finger pointing when things go wrong. Worked for nearly 3 years, more than half of my time was on minimum wage. Easily found a near 50% wage rise when looking for other Application Support jobs on the market. Very little room for progression, after consistently exceeding my job roles expectations for years, no official promotion or pay rise was offered, despite being one of the top performing members of my team stats wise 2 years in a row. It's obvious the company has little to no money left to actually invest in the people who work tirelessly to keep this company afloat. Was threatened with termination of my employment 1 day after returning from life threatening sick leave by HR. The reason for this threat was "Regarding my absence" despite it being pre approved by HR themselves... They then gave me a miniscule pay rise after I threatened to leave a couple of months later in an attempt to keep me at the company, Many other examples of shady, toxic, borderline discriminatory behaviour from leadership and HR that don't involve me. Do not expect human empathy. We are all purely resources to them. Staff turnover is high for a reason. Its only now that I have moved on that I've realised how badly this place affected me and my team members mental health. This is not how a healthy, normal company is supposed to operate. My quality of life has drastically improved since leaving. If you already have worked in IT previously, there is no reason to work here as of July 2024. I honestly wish the best for everyone at SI and hope things improve soon.

Pros

The fellow developers who were in my team were very helpful and kind. As well, the Software test engineers were collaborative.

Cons

The Manager and HR were toxic and removed me from the company due to lack of resources. They made up silly reasons and got on my back for 2 mins lateness on work and other events. 2-3 mins lateness on few occasions resulted on them raising it as a disciplinary problem. Surely, it was fishy but I didn't raise any problem as I didn't want to waste my time with them.
