I worked at Selfridges full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nothing at all, besides meeting the most amazing colleagues who are now my friends, and really cheap chips in the canteen

    Cons

Everything about selfridges makes me sick to the core. The management team are disgusting and alienated to any sort of human feeling. They treat you like animals and put money before the needs of people. The managers are passive aggressive and refuse to take ownership and responsibility for their incapability of communicating with the staff members. They prey on the weaker and give no recognition and praise to those working hard on the front lines. Every single manager is power hungry and quite frankly I feel sorry for them, I hope they see a future outside of retail because working there your whole life is NOT the one ho
ney. They need to take their jobs a lot less seriously and realise there is life outside of retail. They’re passive aggressive and very much lack any sort of human emotion or empathy, with snide and disgusting comments made like “take a paracetamol” when told a staff member has had a panic attack and cannot come into work and “you’re over exaggerating” when a staff member has been traumatised from the events that had happened in store that was all over the news. When you have family emergencies and need to spend time with a sick relative or sibling, I had been told “you’re not the parent or cater so why are you staying at the hospital with them”. I could go on and on but the list would never stop. If you’re looking for a job that treats you well and respects your human dignity, DO NOT even bother applying for a job at Selfridges, they’re power hungry, revolting, inhumane animals who feed off of your success so they look bigger and better to the people above them. If you’re looking for a place where you won’t be told to go and “put on some makeup” or don’t even ask for your well-being when you miss a day of work, do not come here. It was by far the worst experience of my life, practically working in a hidden sweatshop, hidden behind the yellow facade and big black SELFRIDGES logo. I wouldn’t wish my worst enemy to work at this place, so run in a different direction if you ever see a job vacancy available here.

    Advice to Management

    Learn to be humans
