I have been working at Selfridges full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I moved over from one of our group businesses last year and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. You get full ownership and accountability of your work, you work with fun, creative, likeminded people and the discount is AMAZING. As is the holiday allowance. The benefits for staff are brilliant here - flexible working, great charity initiatives and fundraising things to get involved in.

    Cons

No cons that I can think of, it's a great place to work

    Advice to Management

    Not really no.

I have been working at Selfridges full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Inspiring management in a high performing business that is investing for the future. I have great colleagues who are talented, dedicated and fun. It's a great place to work and the work itself is varied, challenging and recognised.

    Cons

The staff canteen - the environment is tired, its doesn't feel big enough to accommodate everyone who might want to use it and the food offer is just not of a good quality. It's a real opportunity for the business to improve

    Advice to Management

Please take a look at the canteen, and in investing in your team member spaces with greater frequency and focus

  3. "Good salaries but poor culture and organisation"

I worked at Selfridges (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Really good compensation. The salaries are very good and really above most competitors, particularly if accounting for commission and/or bonuses.

    - Every employee, whether internal or from a concession, undergoes a really good and thorough 2-day induction (considering that, one would expect that a great culture prevails and everything is that well organised, but barely we know what's coming once the job starts).

    Cons

    - Very modern looking in the front of house, but completely outdated and inefficient in back of house (I would say, still stuck in the 1980's). Some of the procedures, organisation and technology available are outright absurd in any company in the 21st century. Things on the shopfloor can change unexpectedly and in totally random and nonsensical ways, according to the ego of whoever is in charge at a given moment. Caring employees will struggle with all of that, and the problems will often affect the shopping experience of some of the best customers.

    - The culture that comes from the higher tiers of management is absolutely toxic and if unchanged, in the long-term can put the company in serious jeopardy. There is a far too high turnover of Department Managers, which is not a coincidence. People from the higher tiers of management treat everybody below them with contempt, arrogance and a complete lack of basic manners and respect. That would be unacceptable between strangers on the street, let alone between people working in the same company.

I have been working at Selfridges part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you work in London everything is a pro, management, pay, culture, respect

    Cons

If you work in Birmingham it's very negative and can be non enjoyable. Culture is not present, very backwards in how it's run and mess you around with either pay or hours. Not keeping people on yet moaned not enough cover for jobs. Management also who are not incharge of departments acting as they think they do bring morale down of staff

    Advice to Management

Again London management are great very professional but Birmingham need to be more caring towards staff
