I have been working at Selfridges full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

I moved over from one of our group businesses last year and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. You get full ownership and accountability of your work, you work with fun, creative, likeminded people and the discount is AMAZING. As is the holiday allowance. The benefits for staff are brilliant here - flexible working, great charity initiatives and fundraising things to get involved in.

    Cons

No cons that I can think of, it's a great place to work

    Advice to Management

    Not really no.

I have been working at Selfridges part-time

    Pros

I've never worked for a company that cares so much about the mental well-being of their employees. Everyone is kind. The word most commonly used to describe my manager is "sound" and it's true. I think I got lucky in this respect. I feel as though if I were to share that I have a mental illness with someone other than HR I would not be judged. They look after you in every respect including sickness and benefits, and the...

I have been working at Selfridges full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Warm and mostly friendly staff. Chilled out atmosphere. Not a lot of stress from management, they treat you like actual people and not a number, for the most part. Not as much of a narcissistic hub as Harrods. close proximity to public transport. The comfy sofa's upstairs in the canteen where you can out your tired feet up. Harrods don't even have these.

      Cons

Security is good but not as up to par to Harrods. It gives a subtle mist of just a posh John Lewis. Attracts a higher percentage of rougher customers. (Drug dealers, scammers, thieves, 'Roadmen' all of whom are mostly lovely and polite). The biggest and worst issues by far are that they DONT give tea breaks unlike Harrods, AND they stay open till 10 pm in the summer for their Arab clients (because they have to...

I worked at Selfridges full-time for more than a year

        Pros

High standards, celeb spotting, good discount, good to have on your CV and because of the nature of Selfridges training and expectations are on point. Sales assistants pay is pretty good along with holiday and benefits. Long lunches which are nice.

        Cons

Crazy high sales targets and commission brings out the worst in co-workers and floor managers. Worked for four months and still had a temporary locker and it took constant chasing and having to deal with unhelpful rude staff to eventually have a store pass which works. Overpriced staff canteen for poor quality of food, pretty airless and depressing place! Toilets are disgusting, always queues and most cubicles are broken....

        Advice to Management

Communicate with each other! Very incompetent staff for such an established brand. Training on things like GDPR/data and other elements seem very ‘tick box’ and not nearly as thorough enough or good as it could be, often rushed just to say they’ve done it.
