I worked at Serco Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay ok for admin/clerical based work.
On the whole, as long as you get on with the job your paid for, should have no problems.
Training much improved over the last couple of years, so better equipped when new on floor.
Chance for people to move up the ladder if they want to.
All staff kept up to date with redundancy information, so there were no surprises.

    Cons

Very pressurised with sometimes difficult targets depending on which work flow was currently being dealt with .
As with all companies, managers not always working to the same standard with staff. During personal emergencies, can be shown little empathy or be fully supported depending on which manager.
Contract ending, little effort seems to have been put in to gain new work for the area, and provide stability for the workers. Disappointing considering the commitment they claim to have had to the people working for them, and employment in the area.

    Advice to Management

As above. No opinion on CEO as no idea what impact he had on the closure of the site.

I worked at Serco Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very dependent on the contract you are on but it's very diverse and so if you are able to be flexible on location there are loads of different career alternatives. Not as political as many company's I've worked for.

Generally good people to work with

The explanation of the above title is that as it's very contract centric many decisions are made locally and there is the opportunity to be creative.

    Cons

It's a services company and so budgets are very tight and financial achievement is a constant priority. As such salaries are on the low side but you can overcome this by working hard and getting promoted.

You are working on contracts and as such you can only be relatively certain of your job security for the length of the contract.

    Advice to Management

Spend as much time looking at your people as you do your revenue and margin lines

I worked at Serco Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people and teamwork at sharp end of operations

    Cons

    Too many chiefs with ego
    Lack of investment
Serco values preached but not a reality
Lack of operational knowledge in middle managers

    Advice to Management

Actions speak louder than words. Look after your workforce and clear out the greedy, egotistical middle managers only interested in their own career and bonuses.

    Pros

Good team delivering the contract wanting to do the right thing

    Cons

Revenue & Profit growth was too often the overriding priority leading to the wrong decisions being taken and decisions taken being short term in nature.

I worked at Serco Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My co-workers in my team were friendly

    Cons

The role was not what it was sold to me as. Highly understaffed and overstretched with no ability for me to provide a good level of customer service. I expressed concerns about staffing levels (as did the rest of the team) but nothing was done. I would never work there again. I felt like I was treading water everyday and not progressing. At one point I was the only person in our team there for a week and was expected to keep on top of my own and my co-workers workload. It was far too stressful with the promises being too different from the reality. There was no training plan and I was expected to run with a bespoke IT system with no user guide. Absolute shambles!

    Advice to Management

Be realistic in what you can offer to the clients and stop understaffing to save money.
