I have been working at Shoosmiths full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Generally the environment is a really positive one, the majority of partners are really approachable and there isn't the oppressive hierarchical atmosphere you might find elsewhere. Pay is generally competitive. Flexible and agile working is generally supported. Real engagement in trying to improve representation and support marginalised groups e.g. gender equality, LGBT issues, BAME networks etc.

    Cons

There is still a pocket of old fashioned views who still see face-time in the office as the most important thing, WFH as a jolly etc. Also there are no bonuses or performance-based pay rises, neither are their automatic pay rises on promotion, pay is best on market value at level of qualification, regardless of individual output.

I have been working at Shoosmiths full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Reputable company Colleagues are very friendly for the most part If you manage to become friends with your manager you will have a great time Training is very good

    Cons

Unless you make friends with the managers, don't expect to feel supported I question the confidentiality when raising concerns So very hard to move up Little to no legal work involved even when jobs are advertised as 'para-legal'. You will be a debt collector who sometimes gets to use the word 'contract' to feel like you are doing law-related work Terrible pay Obvious favouritism from managers and HR No consideration for personal issues or mental health
