Great job, poor leadership

Pros

Sip pays well, the work load is reasonable, and not particularly difficult.

Cons

Training consists of a few terribly produced videos and that’s basically it. The shift “leaders” have very little interest in leading or training. Do not work here unless you have coffee experience. If you don’t, they will sniff that out, and they will not help you because they know you won’t last. I worked here for a month. And even though I have ten years of experience in kitchens, I haven’t worked in coffee. What I found was an organization that does not know how to train employees and has no interest in doing so. I was let go because I was not using my down time effectively. In my defense, my downtime mostly consisted of watching my shift leaders chat with my coworkers, hide in the break room to watch sports on their iPad, or just generally stand around. They just don’t want to have to train or develop people, and so they’ve got a culture problem and just no leadership whatsoever. It’s clique-y, and the managers seem completely worn down from caring and have found that it’s easier to bring a bunch of people in and fire the ones that can’t figure it out on their own than it is to develop talent and help it to thrive. I was just entirely disappointed by the operation of this business. There is a load of potential in this place, but zero accountability. Why take accountability when you can just blame the new people, get rid of them, and bring in some more new people to blame and fire later. I desperately needed this job, and I genuinely gave every ounce of effort I had to learning how to thrive and excel and lead through my work here, but I found that no one else working there had any interest in helping me to do that other than a few new people who tried to help as much as they could. Unfortunately they let me go, and the entire situation was a waste of my time and will end up setting me back more than I already was. But the manager did offer to give me a reference if I needed it. Absurd. Anyways - great job if you’re cool and young and fun and already know coffee. Terrible job if you need training and worry about fitting in. Just skip this job and apply somewhere else.

Bullies

Pros

You can make good money on tips and you get free coffee

Cons

The other staff are bullies. Full grown bullies. One person decides they don’t like you and the next thing you know, youre fired because youre not the right “vibe”. The training is basically throwing you into it and expecting you to just know things. Absolutely no patience, they are waiting for you to fail so they can go complain about you to the manager and everyone else in the building.
