Back breaking job

Pros

Co-workers. The majority are great. Some nurses have issues with belittling others during report time. (They are NOT very skilled themselves so they lash out at others.)

Cons

IV pumps are broken. Equipment is hard to find and you need to search for it. There is not enough help which leads to nurses lifting fat patients all alone. Visitors RUN WILD and lash out at nurses. Again, if there were just one more CNA, our "scores" would go up, which seems to be so all-important to get paid by medicare. One manager actually stopped ordering pens, pencils, post it notes and told her staff to buy their own...that's one of her cost-cutting measures. It's juvenile. There are also too many visitors...they take over the patient rooms, demanding to sleep there as they are indigent or stuck in Las Vegas. They are rude and abusive and this is tolerated in the name of "customer service." Patients get better with fewer visitors. Nurses won't go into rooms on a casual basis if they are constantly bombarded with "get me coffee, water, a "visitor meal," etc., and you end up treating them as if they are free guests in a hotel. The doctors agree with us, but they are contracted. And they don't have to experience the visitors all day long. We didn't have COFFEE to give to the visitors for two months....trying to save a buck. But the stock prices are very, very stable.

Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center Response

Spring Valley Hospital is committed to providing the highest level of care and service to our patients and their families. It is unfortunate that one of our nurses does not feel the same way, especially related to family members and visitors. Our policies and philosophy are built around patient centered care and we encourage families and visitors to provide support and encouragement to all of our patients.

Pros

Some nurses do care about their patients.

Cons

Do NOT trust some of the 5 stars here. They are by the management. RNs - No teamwork exists unless you are Filipino. Even if you are, it's literally like being in high school - bullying, stealing, gossiping, dramas, etc. No job satisfaction, no recognition, your voice will be ignored, and nurses work to death. Spring Valley made me to think about quitting nursing. I'm glad I left Spring Valley, not nursing. CNAs - Most of the CNAs are always hiding somewhere. You will never find them. The only time they really check on their patients is at the end of the shift, so the patients are clean and look okay for the upcoming shift. I've floated to most floors, and only few CNAs were actually good. Management - I just cannot believe that they were once nurses on the floors. They only care about the audits, numbers, and VIPs. That's all. Patients - If you are not having a life-threatening emergency and don't need an ambulance, please go ahead and choose a different hospital for your safety.

Pros

Great co workers at night. Awesome RT teams and very supportive charge nurses.

Cons

CEO doesn't care to staff the floors properly. Some house supervisors are accepting more patients when hospital is already full. Hallway patients are regular in the ED. Not enough staff.
