Rewarding Nonprofit Job Experience

Pros

Working at Sprouts has given me invaluable experience in the nonprofit sector, especially right out of undergrad. There is huge potential for growth in the organization - I received a promotion within 6 months of working here. Since the organization is small, hard work is definitely noticed and rewarded! I would recommend Sprouts Cooking Club as a fun, mission oriented place to work. Plus, office is always cooking up something delicious.. Pros: - Mission oriented work - Casual - Fun team culture - Flexibility in scheduling/work - Room for upwards growth

Cons

Benefits are not comparable to a for profit organization.

Pros

I helped out with marketing and general tech issues as a volunteer, and had a very positive experience. The staff was incredibly appreciative, and Karen (the executive director) spent a lot of time brainstorming with me and explaining the needs of the program. They even gave me a gift of Santa Barbara chocolates at the end. I really believe in what they are doing, and don't think that their Chef-in-training program gets enough credit!

Cons

They are a small nonprofit, so like all small organizations, there is a lot that they want to do, but don't necessarily have the resources to accomplish. I guess that is the name of the game. At the same time, it gave me a sense of empowerment because my help went a long ways.

Pros

Truly giving back to the community Growing quickly, which really makes for an exciting environment The team gets a remote work day which keeps the pace of the week at bay Lots of autonomy Since we are small, our voice is definitely heard

Cons

Small non-profit so can't offer the same amount of benefits as a large company Lots of hats to wear Working with kids take a LOT of energy!
