Toxic, unhealthy culture

Pros

- Access to incredible clients - flexible working (to an extent) - Fully remote - Growing fast with really impressive projects - Fantastic equipment provided

Cons

This is by far, the most toxic working environment I have ever been involved with. Every aspect of the company is micromanaged by a boss who cannot let go of any control and refuses to accept any form of feedback or suggestion. Surrounded by a team of yes men who are too afraid to say no to anything he suggests. It is normal behaviour to call out and shout at staff publicly in front of the entire company within online comms but don’t you dare ever complain or attempt to change a procedure to make things easier. It is absolutely no surprise to me that since leaving, I am aware that the vast majority of the team I worked with have also now left. This company has such potential and is smashing it in terms of its clients and growth. But there’s a reason they are always advertising for staff…and it’s not because of the growth.

Thank you for your feedback and for highlighting both the positives and the challenges you experienced. While we’re proud of the incredible clients, projects, and flexibility we offer, it’s clear that your time with us didn’t reflect the kind of work environment we strive to create. Your feedback underscores the importance of making real changes, including how we empower our team, provide constructive feedback, and ensure everyone feels respected and supported. We’re grateful for your honesty and are actively working to address these issues. Thank you for being part of our journey and helping us improve. We wish you all the best moving forward.

Horrendous Company Culture

Pros

Genuinely fantastic clients, working with some of the biggest sports teams/brands in the world.

Cons

There is absolutely no company culture here, there is a constant stream of new arrivals and an equal if not greater amount of departures. Management have a complete lack of care towards employees. My colleagues were constantly berated and criticised in front of the whole team. It is by far one of the worst company cultures I have ever experienced. I would strongly suggest any potential candidates question the positive reviews and take note of the fact they are always hiring.

Disappointing experience

Pros

- Impressive client portfolio - Dedicated, talented staff - Exciting product with significant potential - Flexible, remote work options - Modern technology and tools

Cons

- Leadership and Communication: The CEO’s language in internal communications was often unprofessional, degrading, and fear-inducing. His lack of trust in employees was evident in his tendency to micromanage every team. - High Staff Turnover: Staff turnover was unusually high, with employees leaving or being laid off nearly every week during my time at the company. Departures were often abrupt, without any communication to the wider team. On a few occasions, I only realised someone had left because their Slack account was deactivated. When I asked senior management about the reasons for these departures, I was simply told, "it was not a match." - Insufficient Support and High Expectations: While high-quality work was expected, support from senior management was minimal. This made it very difficult for staff to meet expectations without adequate guidance. - Client vs Internal Relations: Ironically, client interactions often felt more genuine and personable than internal ones. Within the company, there was minimal focus on employee well-being. It was standard practice to keep cameras off during internal calls. With remote work and limited in-person meetings, it was easy to feel isolated and disconnected. - Lack of Structure and Knowledge Gaps: Frequent staff changes made it nearly impossible to establish consistent processes or team structure. New hires rarely overlapped with their predecessors, resulting in significant knowledge gaps. Additionally, there was little onboarding support, and new employees were expected to operate independently from day one pretty much.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear about your experience, as it’s far from what we strive for at Storyteller. Building a positive and supportive work environment is something we take seriously, and we’re continuously progressing in this area. Your points about communication, onboarding, and team structure are especially valuable, and we’re committed to addressing them. While transitions and growth in a startup can be challenging, it’s clear that we keep doing better in supporting our team through those changes. We’re always working on making onboarding smoother, improving leadership alignment, and fostering a more open & respectful culture where every team member feels supported. Reviews like yours help us identify where we need to focus, and we truly appreciate you sharing your perspective. Wishing you all the best in your next endeavors.
