I have been working at Subsea 7 full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible working arrangements, pension plan, able to work with advanced technology, engineering dept's work to a very high standard and develop excellent solutions, colleagues have high levels of experience and great work ethic (more than the company realises)

    Cons

Departments are very separate from each other, poor collaboration between departments and groups, top heavy with management, lack of training, poorly defined career progression routes, skills of individuals not used correctly, lack of ownership given to engineers, senior management are invisible. poor planning of maintenance of assets. core values are not always followed or implemented, core employees are underappreciated by upper management.

    Advice to Management

thin out management/reporting lines, invest in your employees more, senior management needs to be more visible on the shop floors and engineering offices, develop and challenge engineers - do not leave them to stagnate and lose vital skills, allow operational personnel to be more involved with R&D and product development (don't silo these types of groups or make them 'top secret' as the products they develop become obsolete or not fit for purpose before they are even brought into use)
