Pros

Great technology that will definitely help patients once the technology matures some more and becomes more reliable.

Cons

A difficult culture where your opinion better be the same as senior management. In the last 12-18 months, most (about 10) mid management people (Directors and VP's) left the company, almost all voluntarily, all looking for a more open and honest environment to work in. Included were heads of sales and business development, quality, regulatory, finance, operations and engineering. Senior management is missing the point of leading, they seem to lead by fear and finding blame. The talent continues to bleed out the door. Morale is not good and retention is a real challenge.

Unhealthy Enviroment - Dim and Fading Future

Pros

Truly novel technology that has the potential to improve patient care and save lives but the system and assay are simply not ready for prime time.

Cons

I would urge anyone who is considering a career at T2 to pay very close attention to the “low star” reviews and be extremely leery of the overly positive reviews that were more than likely solicited and planted by the company to improve ratings and hide reality. I cannot add much more than the combined thoughts/opinions of the REAL reviews as they all hit the mark in some form or fashion. Although there are some very talented people at T2, it doesn’t really matter since any thoughts, opinions, or ideas that do not “align” with certain senior execs are disregarded and belittled (including those of other senior execs). The vast majority of people that I came into contact with at T2 were very unhappy and most were looking to get out asap. The environment at T2 is super unhealthy and exudes a dreadful culture with a very dim and fading future due to other companies who are very close to developing smaller, faster, better, higher throughput, and more reliable technology.

T2 Biosystems Response

We feel so strongly about the importance of our team that I wanted to take the time now to post our first response to a Glassdoor review. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We’re disappointed that you did not have a more positive experience while part of our team, but we appreciate the contributions you made towards our mission while you were here. We certainly agree that we have a tremendous opportunity to use our technology to significantly improve patient care and save lives across the globe. We also know that we will experience some challenges along the way. But at T2, when we encounter a problem, we find a way to solve it. As our CEO John McDonough recently said, “When we hit a wall, we take out our picks and shovels and take down the wall.” This team is truly unstoppable when we work together! T2 is growing and rapidly evolving which leads to a significant amount of change. Our team is made up of many individuals who enjoy and thrive in this type of environment. But this culture won’t be the right fit for everyone and that’s okay. To succeed, we know that the voices of all team members must be heard. As the head of HR, I am committed to ensuring that this is the case. We take pride in fostering a respectful, inclusive, team-oriented culture and our greatest accomplishments often originate from an idea or plan being challenged. However, it’s possible that you experienced something contrary to this or interpreted the process in a negative way - and perhaps you may not be alone. This feedback is very helpful and we are committed to ensuring that this is not a common experience. Thank you again for your contribution to Team Orange at T2 and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. - Kelley

Promising but precarious

Pros

Fascinating technology, talented workforce, generally productive environment with lots of opportunities for challenge, success, and achievement. There are decent benefits including 3 weeks of vacation even for entry level positions and some great social activities. I believe there is an opportunity for this to be a top employer if managed correctly.

Cons

The growing company still lacks structured programs for soft benefits such as injury prevention, professional development & succession plans, and telecommuting or flex-time. There is an EAP, but physical and mental health programs and other efforts to improve work-life balance are minimal at best. High stress with little mitigation. This has increased since commercialization last year due to lack of appropriate planning and investment. Senior leadership are pressured to achieve lofty goals, so they put tremendous pressure on their staff members. Large pockets of the organization work 50-60 hours routinely and are demoralized without clear, consistent priorities or a plan for relief. Few managers have the resources or authority to do their jobs, so management turnover is very high. Morale is tanking since top management has not acknowledged this glaring issue. Communication down is only for good news. Trust is crumbling.
