Pros

Encouraged, not forced, to do PhD

Cons

Very exploitative management - no support for WFH: lecturers have to get own device for e-learning, pay for WiFi/broadband, told to 'solve your own problems'. Staff expected to do so much marketing activities - visit schools, open days, education fairs, public workshops, etc on top of teaching duties (what's the marketing department for?). Also expected to do never ending paperwork like changes in programme structure, or preparation for audits, or programme self review, constant changes in course files content, etc. Encouraged to do PhD but workload still 16-20hours of classes a week. Achieve SETARA 5 but low pay compared to peers. Stagnant salary if you reach the 'ceiling'. Promotion exercise should be yearly but always 'frozen' for who knows what reasons. 2020 bonus only 1.5 months - lowest ever. Since everyone WFH, no need for electricity on campus for classes, no need for maintenance of facilities, overall student enrollment is steady, why such disappointing bonus? Lousy medical benefits - they follow GH rate and any excess, staff fork out from own pocket. Furthermore there is a cap on how much they will pay a year for you (RM1,300) and your dependants (RM550 for one dependant, RM650 for two, etc. Max per household is RM2,100). With medical costs going up every year, this is a joke! Lack of work/life balance - on paper, teaching hours are 16-20 per week but with all the other things to do like being ask to chase after 30+ student advisees for academic consultations, preparation for classes, marking assignments, admin work, research, etc you will be clicking in 12 hours per day.

Pros

-If you are looking for a stable ie 8 am - 5 pm job, then this will be your go-to job. -Student area so you can expect lower cost on food and transportation, perk like free transportation to LRT or nearby places. -Employer provide average benefits.

Cons

-Extremely slow career progression. Don't expect any promotion if your superior is still on their job. Even if your superior left, the opportunity for you to step up is very unlikely. -Extremely boring job scope and self developments. You will find that very difficult to secure a new job after TARUC, as your experience is irrelevant to the job market. You hardly learn new things and technology on the job. - Salary structure was manipulated by management, you will think your salary is average among another job on the market, but it was built up with multiple allowances in which most employers will offer the salary based on your previous basic salary. But what else is left to say, the basic salary at TARUC is just sad even for a bachelor holder,
