I have been working at Tableau Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Love working with outcome-oriented team, not nearly as much internal politicking as some of the other places I've worked. AWESOME product that people easily fall in love with.

    Cons

The company is clearly maturing from startup phase, and the grumbling from early Tabloids that "things used to be better" ignores the fact that there are plenty of good people here who are excited about working on the next phase of the company's growth.

    Advice to Management

The structural changes may be uncomfortable for individuals, but so far the big decisions have been the right ones. Keep it up!

    Pros

Great working environment and truly collegiate. The product/company loyalty from both its employees and customers is unique - I have not experienced this in previous companies!

    Cons

Growing pains, but in a good way and it keeps the challenge alive!

I worked at Tableau Software full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A sales job at Tableau is usually pretty easy to get, just memorize a demo and you're in! It actually is a great product, so the conversations you'll have with customers are enjoyable. The office is cool and in a nice location. Work-life balance is good.

    Cons

Since the job is so easy to get, you'll often find yourself surrounded by people that bring so little to the table that it makes you question your own career choices. Then there's the micromanagement, which one finds at every company with a few thousand people, but Tableau takes the cake; there are so many layers and so many "managers" that add absolutely no value (unless, of course, value is defined as lowering employee morale).

Career progression hardly exists in the sales org. Sure, some roles have been created to be able to "progress" people, but the harsh reality is that there are not a lot of people that truly move up the ladder. What makes the situation more unfortunate, is that those people are almost exclusively the ones that spend more time on office politics than with their clients.

Combine all of the above with pay that is well below the industry standard and you'll understand why a company with a great product and nice office has such a low Glassdoor score and why people are constantly leaving.

    Advice to Management

Unfortunately, a culture has been created in which honest feedback is not appreciated. However, try to listen to your employees (and act on it) and stop creating more bureaucracy than necessary.

I worked at Tableau Software full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free food, great location, beautiful office. Colleagues were helpful and nice, atmosphere was ok.

    Cons

No flexibility on schedule for people who commute, immature managers lacking experience and people skills, micromanaging was the norm. HR should be more involved in people's problems and come up with viable solutions and make sure managers are equipped with proper tools to manage teams.

    Advice to Management

hire experienced managers who actually know how to do their job. Stop micromanaging employees and be more transparent in your decisions.

    Pros

Young and always changing environment. You can change teams easily, flat hierarchy and amazing work culture.

    Cons

The sales life can get monotonous, but if you focus on learning more about the product you can challenge your week by attending onsite sessions or online webinars!

I worked at Tableau Software full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great software. Good presales. Good stockprice. Good salary. Great education/bootcamp programme.

    Cons

If you want to be micromanaged by incompetent mid management and you enjoy internal politics, then this could be a great place for you. Most employees are working in telesales type roles and therefore there is prevailing clock watching culture. At lunch, or during breaks, colleagues are constantly nervous about staying out too long as they need to be back at their desks. This culture is also spreading into more senior positions. Not a good place for a work/life balance. Your territory will determine if you are successful or not. You might get most of South Europe or the whole of Russia, or you might get a few boroughs of London. Tableau are hiring quickly, which means sales territories constantly shrink.

    Advice to Management

Change mid management. They cost loads and add no value.
