Pros

Majority of people at Tchibo in Epsom are very friendly and as you get free coffee all day everyone's pretty chirpy! The quarterly events are usually pretty fun aswell

Cons

Everyone is overworked and underpaid. Atleast a 9 hour day in a very school like environment with unqualified and under trained managers makes it not a great place to work. The turnover rate is ridiculously high and I think this reflects on the "better to sack then train" ethos they seem to have towards staff. This place is a good stop gap but I wouldn't recommend it at all if you're looking for a career

Thanks for taking the time to leave this review and sorry that it’s taken us a while to get back to you – we’ve recently reviewed our Glassdoor page. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed our delicious coffee – we’re very proud to serve it. It’s also really encouraging that you found the quarterly events fun, they always get great feedback and our staff love having them so frequently, so we’ll keep up the good work! I’m sorry to hear that you were over worked and under paid, that’s definitely not our ethos at Tchibo. You’ll be pleased to hear that we have just reduced our working hours, which we feel is a step in the right direction. One of our perks we offer staff is sponsored studies. Nothing is off the table here – if an employee asks for training, to go on a course or gain a qualification, we will always do our best to accommodate it, so I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t experience that during your time with Tchibo. We’re honoured to have many colleagues who have been with the Tchibo family for over 20 years and through our unique offering, we’re confident that many more will stay just as long. I hope you’re enjoying your new chapter and best of luck for your future. Lara – HR.

Focus on recognition and colleague well-being

Pros

Tchibo are very focused on recognising great work and this is something that stood out for me when I first started working here. Colleagues are encouraged to recognise each other and awards are given out quarterly. Recently, Tchibo trained several colleagues to be mental health first aiders, which I think is a great initiative and so important for employee well being. I feel like I am encouraged to develop my skills, take training courses and feel like my skills/experience are valued.

Cons

Some difficult manual business processes and systems, but work is ongoing to improve this. 8am start to the working day.

Thank you for your review of our Epsom, UK branch. It’s great to hear that you can see the good work going on at Tchibo, with our particular focus on wellbeing. We want to help you to grow in your career and we’re deeply passionate about mental health and overall wellbeing of everyone at Tchibo, so I’m really pleased that that is shining through. We’ve got lots of exciting new plans to make Tchibo an ever better place to work, so watch out for more on that. We’re proud of our recognition programme and love celebrating and rewarding our colleagues who go the extra mile. Our culture is about recognising all the little things that make us great – from doing the coffee rounds, to tackling big presentations, so I’m really pleased you’re enjoying that. We have also been doing some good work on staff training. One of the perks we offer our colleagues is sponsored studies. Nothing is off the table here – if you ask for training, to go on a course or gain a qualification, we will always do our best to accommodate it. I understand that our processes and systems can be tricky at times, which is why we’re very excited to be re-vamping the way we do this. It’s not long now until our new, modern system will be in place, so I hope this makes your everyday work easier and more efficient. We’re really excited to get it up and running. We have also recently re-visited our working hours, so I hope you’re enjoying your early finish on Fridays. Lara, HR.

Thank you for your review! I'm pleased to hear that you're enjoying our new relaxed hours and we certainly are a company that genuinely care about our colleagues as people in and outside of the workplace. Nothing is too much to ask here at Tchibo and we always do our best to be flexible and accommodating. I appreciate your feedback about our training offering - we're proud to be able to offer our colleagues training and development, tailored to their needs. Nothing is off the table when it comes to development, but I understand that perhaps not everyone is fully aware of what we offer. It's something we are definitely looking into, so watch this space!
