Pros

The dogs are cute and the people are nice (these are the only pros!)

Cons

The founder encourages a toxic workplace. The way that he speaks to people and treats people is totally unacceptable, not to mention the way that he lies to clients. DO NOT BELIEVE the other reviews on here, I have heard the founder ask people for positive reviews. Every time you look at social media there is a new staff member because no one sticks around (or the founder takes a disliking to you and you get sacked with little to no warning). Founder has his favourites in the business (these people are blatantly obvious!) and if you're not one of them then you won't be sticking around...

Pros

Most of the team were lovely, welcoming and a pleasure to work with. Fun, regular social events and an emphasis on company culture which allow you to bond with your colleagues. For the most part, clients were great and expectations were managed from the outset.

Cons

Unfortunately the cons far outweigh the pros at The Good Marketer. The environment is very toxic and almost all of that stems from the director, Tom. Overall he is a nice guy but the way he speaks to some of his staff members is frankly disgusting, shouting at them and reducing them to tears is not effective management in my eyes. He has incredibly, some would say unrealistically, high expectations of his staff. Dishing out crazy high workloads and justifying it by asking people to track every minute of their day. Expect to be challenged if you haven't tracked the full 8 hours of the day when you push back on having too much to do. There is a severe lack of trust with his employees here and I have seen people work 60+ hour weeks with no offer of overtime pay. Unrealistically, high workloads is the norm when working here. Be prepared when you make a mistake you will likely be shouted at, questioned and made to feel terrible, not encouraged to improve or asked why you think it went wrong. Tom justifies this behaviour by promoting an 'amazing work culture'. Unfortunately taking your team out for fun social events can only go so far when treating them so badly. All this leads to a very high turnover in staff as you can see from their social media channels. It is a shame because otherwise my experience working here was positive.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We always encourage both positive and negative feedback, as this is the only way for us to improve. No business or person is perfect, Tom included, but we actively strive to make The Good Marketer one of the best places to work. Therefore, we think it would be useful to share some of our recent Employee Well-being results; - 93% of our team members said that The Good Marketer cares about the mental health of its team members - 86% of our team members said The Good Marketer does enough to promote employee wellbeing (resources, benefits, advice, etc.) - 60% of our team members said The Good Marketer offers the support they need to deal with work-related stress - 80% of our team members feel happy at work - 86% of our team members enjoy the work they do - 66% of our team members feel supported at The Good Marketer when they are dealing with personal or family issues - 38% of our team members find their workload manageable - 40% of our team members feel that they can maintain a healthy balance between work and their personal life - 80% of our team members feel genuinely supported if they choose to make use of flexible working arrangements - 80% of our team members feel they are able to arrange time off from work when they need to It's clear that there is more work we can do around work-life balance and workload, and we welcome any current team members to share their insights and thoughts. Any team member working over their weekly hours on a regular basis is actively discouraged. We do not offer overtime pay because, in our opinion, it incentivises the wrong behaviours. Our responsibility is to support team members to improve their effectiveness to avoid exceeding their weekly hours, not encourage them to work more. We are also actively recruiting and implementing training plans with clear KPIs to ensure that those that we recruit have every opportunity to be successful. Finally, we would love to invite you for a chat to discuss the issues you have raised. You're welcome to email hr@thegoodmarketer.co.uk to schedule this.

Pros

None really, high work load and micro management are probably the least of your problems

Cons

Delusional management, atrocious pay, constant movement of goal posts for clients. The founder religiously asks people at the company to write good reviews on here to level out the negative ones. Seemingly 'too busy' to make time for 1:1's but has time to come on here and defend any negative reviews - show's where his priorities lie - concerned about the external PR of the company rather than the well being of actual employee's at the company.
