      Average mid-tier national firm with debatable ambitions

      Pros

      Very relaxed and friendly environment. Most of the staff are warm with the odd exception which is understandable. There is relatively prestigious work to get involved in if you are in the right team at the right time.

      Cons

      The administrative support facilities are often lacking. There is a lack of executive transparency, particularly regarding remuneration and other ancillary policies. The firm is in the process of considering an ASX listing which added significant costs pressures which were downstreamed to fee earners and administrative staff alike.

      Partner profit before people, living in the 1950s with how they manage and treat people

      Pros

      If you dedicate your whole life to them, they will pay you well (i'm talking 80 hour weeks) The support staff (and particularly secretaries) work hard in difficult circumstances

      Cons

      Partner profit comes first. It doesn't matter how a Partner acts/behaves if they are a big biller they will get away with it. Support staff are treated like second class citizens. Dictatorial CEO. You better not have an opinion that is different to his and speak up about it, as you will be ostracised. People generally are dispensible in this business. But women particularly, and don't even think about going on parental leave if you want to have a career here. They read your emails and use that against you. Don't even get me started on the IT team and the inappropriate snooping they do. I'm still having therapy to get over this place

      Sexual harrassment is tolerated

      Pros

      Very few pros, all overshadowed by management’s appalling response to sexual harrassment.

      Cons

      Management tolerates and accepts sexual harassment in the workplace without question. The firm's response to the sexual harrassment that occurred is completely unacceptable in this day and age, and graduates and young lawyers (in particular females) should be very wary before applying to Thomson Geer.
