A horrible place

Pros

There are very few positives overall. Some junior level staff members are supportive and easy to work with, which can make day to day tasks more manageable. Beyond this, there are limited benefits or short and long-term advantages to working here.

Cons

There is a culture where inappropriate behaviour is often overlooked. Bullying is not actively addressed, and I have witnessed staff being spoken to unprofessionally onsite, including raised voices and conflicts between managers. Credit for work is not always given fairly, which can be very demotivating. HR support is extremely limited. Concerns raised are rarely resolved appropriately, and in some cases actions taken appear to negatively impact the wrong people, discouraging employees from speaking up. Since the current CEO took over , the company’s direction and stability appear to have declined further. There is a lack of clear strategy and long term planning, contributing to ongoing uncertainty. Career progression opportunities are very limited and do not appear to be based on performance or skill. Promotions often seem driven by personality or perceived relationships rather than capability, leaving teams to manage the consequences of poor leadership decisions. The company also goes through frequent cycles of redundancies followed by rehiring, creating ongoing instability and stress for employees. Overall, the environment is difficult to navigate and may negatively impact wellbeing. This role may only be suitable as a short term option in limited circumstances. Prospective employees should carefully consider whether this aligns with their expectations and long term career goals.

Pros

There are certain colleagues who are committed, supportive and considerate. The science can be pretty cutting-edge and interesting (if the projects are well managed!).

Cons

Lacking opportunities for professional and personal development. There is a poor (or non-existent) structure for progression within the company, and HR do not have effective systems for monitoring and supporting personal development. Poor management practices where decisions are made without consulting employees, and only communicated poorly and last minute. This leads to projects being badly managed, overworking, and unhealthy team dynamics. The compensation is poor, especially compared to similar companies in the sector, and excellent work performance is rarely rewarded.
