Constant overtime and people being fired

Pros

Office location if you take TTC

Cons

It is not really clear who is in the upper management, except the CEO. The rest get fired or leave so fast, you barely remember their names or faces. The same actually happens with employees of all the levels and from all the departments - many leave, others get fired or laid off. In Engineering, no priorities being followed and nothing being properly completed. As a result people have to deal with extremely buggy and unstable product and suffer from crazy overtime. Developers have to write requirements since the 2 existing PMs are not capable of providing them but very capable of blaming developers and testers after functionalities were released. In the end teams have to redo their work, often asap and over a weekend. CEO participates in the blame game, can freely criticize in the public slack channels. That adds a lot to the overall fear. No one wants to make decisions or take responsibilities in conditions like these. I recommend to stay away from Upchain, you will work hard in a constant chaos and you will not be appreciated.

One of the worst places

Pros

Some nice co-workers and team leads

Cons

Where to even start. Upper management would make horrible decisions and push the team to complete unachievable goals, even when team leads would push back. Development, product and quality is so bad because all is rushed. Everyone always hates their environment and afraid to loose there jobs. If a mistake is made higher up it is ignored. If someone makes a mistake on the team level, they are continuously ridiculed. This is by far the least professional place I've worked at in my entire life. People were yelled at and continuously put on the spot, forced to work overtime to achieve unattainable goals, and then a bunch of people got fired. A bonus for the overtime worked was promised and no one got it.

Pros

Office is in a great location in the heart of Toronto's tech district.

Cons

To start I was completely lied to during my interview process. They stressed how great the culture is, how everyones opinion is valued, and that they are on the verge of redefining an industry. None of this could be further from the truth. [1] This is perhaps the worst culture I have ever experienced. The office is dead quiet throughout the day. No one in the company stays past 5 o'clock. No company events, after hour outings, etc. [2] The team is in a constant state of fear of losing their jobs. Since I've started I've seen countless people walked out the door not long after voicing their opinions about ways we could improve. Unacceptable for a growing startup. Turnover is a massive issue here. [3] The platform itself has a lot of issues/bugs under the hood. The CEO is convinced it's the greatest system ever which is quite laughable. If you criticize the system in any way you might as well pack up your desk because you won't be around long. [4] Everything about HR here is extremely unethical. It is hands down the most unprofessional I have ever worked with. (On top of directly lying to me about the role/company) they also gossip and spread rumours about employees. And with management blind to what's really going on the HR team is basically in charge of things.
