I have been working at Visiting Angels full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It is an emotionally rewarding job where you can make practical changes that improve the lives of the elderly population in your community. This is an opportunity to serve, build trust and positive (professional) relationships with elderly who might not have anyone else due to being home bound, or widowed. This job will teach you a lot about the importance of treating everyone with respect and helping people keep...

    Cons

It can be really hard to work for "some" elderly clients who see you as "the help" - (they will talk down to you and treat you poorly) and not as a human being (who is giving your all to clean their home, help them shower, cook meals, etc.). Sometimes client's family members can be more challenging to interact with than the client them-self. Pay starts at $8/hour (but there are more challenging client assignments that...

    Advice to Management

Pleas consider offering a living wage so that employees can pay their bills and feel VALUED, and so you don't have such a high turnover rate. Having "get-togethers" in your office isn't a practical way to reward caregivers who work full-time all-day-long shifts. Provide more initial training --- like shadowing other experienced caregivers to ensure a consistent level of care is provided, so the clients are well cared...

I have been working at Visiting Angels part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great job if you need flexible hours or time off. Able to refuse working with incompatible clients

    Cons

No insurance. Pay is not aligned with cost of living. You don't know what you're walking into with most clients, since they don't tell you until after you accept the job.

    Advice to Management

Give employees decent pay raises. Give caregivers the full ADLs and health information so caregivers will know health issues of clients before accepting jobs.

Former Employee - Business Office Manager

I worked at Visiting Angels full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I love what Visiting Angels stands for. Their compassion for our seniors.

    Cons

Beware of franchise owners. Each is independently opened and operated. I worked in unhealthy office that was very clicky. The owner had her favorites, If you were not on her busy list that week, you were on the chopping block.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the hardworking, dedicated office staff. And if you hire an office manager, let them manage.
