    Pros

Positives from this job is I got to have a massive insight to what the public have to deal with, how patient journeys can be so slow as the NHS is overwhelmed! (Covid has not helped anyone or any of this) I also go to learn a lot of medical information which is great knowledge to have. Especially if you would like to get your foot in the door in a career within the Medical sector. The training we received was extremely good but I think they lack in how much time is wasted during training and the lack of mental health caller training and how to deal with it there is. As we are only on the end of the phone and words change really change people’s minds. More training needed in the area! With this job you are their in peoples lives in our hands. That can be very stressful. A good point is their is always overtime available. The staff make this company. All of the call advisors and clinicians try to help each other out. But that’s it. I wouldn’t recommend working there unless you are prepared.

    Cons

This role takes someone who can deal with high levels of stress with little to no praise or gratitude! You are worked like Mules. At the start of the shift you must log on dead on shift start time and it is upon yourself to get that early to read emails and get yourself set up which normally takes about 10- 15minutes ( and that is unpaid time) Once logged into queues you are expecting to deal with different severities of calls such as non-emergency through to life-threatening situations with only a 5 second wrap up time between calls where again you are expected to get all notes written up and have a second to breathe. The clinical support is appalling. There is never any clinicians available to help with advice even inc total situations! You get clinicians not wanting to take cases from you if they are writing up notes from another call even if you feel unable to handle the call yourself. Team leader seem to be always overworked from a call advisors point of view. This sometimes makes you feel unable to ask for help and then seem swamped. Then when you need help from higher management on changes, questions and help you are seeking weeks or even MONTHS for answer.

    Pros

Training opportunities, experience of front line patient support, friendly team, inclusive management team, flexible hours and overtime incentives.

    Cons

No major cons, a minority of clinical staff can he short but then they are working under pressure and patient care ultimately is the priority for this company.
