Great people and culture but lacking mentorship and training
Pros
Great company culture, less corporate and far more casual than most office jobs. Variety of types of work with multiple clients and working on internal projects on occasion. Company benefits like quarterly socials, yearly company-wide event. Hybrid role allows for flexibility in working from home and in the office.
Cons
Lack of training can be detrimental to personal development, especially for graduate roles. Some training is delivered too late e.g. you’ll learn how to conduct a stage of a project after doing so rather than beforehand in your initial weeks. Mentorship is varied. Some line managers will be truly invested in your development while others will do the bare minimum that the role requires. Ways of working are not consistent, projects are all ran differently depending on who is the lead staff member working on them. Work/life balance is lacking overall. Personally I spent many shifts starting an hour or so early and finishing an hour or two later at least due to the high demand of work. Speaking with colleagues while at WM this issue is prominent across the organisation but in some disciplines more than others. You are not paid overtime. There is an aspect of blame culture at WM, especially if you’re junior. You’ll be blamed for doing something incorrectly despite the proper training and guidance not being given. Other reviews have mentioned favouritism. I don’t think this is a major issue though like most jobs there will be an aspect of this.
