I worked at Zendesk full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I worked in the Nordics team in the London office in 2018. At the time we had some really good benefits like free food and snacks in the kitchen, stock options, and overall a very cool office. It's also worth to mention that the Zendesk platform itself is really good and when you check in with customers they seem very happy with the return on their investment.

    Cons

For me personally, the only negatives were that I had 3 managers in 1.5 years.. as well as unexpected patch changes which resulted in eventual disengagement from my side. However, To be fair this is to be expected from a growing company, and although I decided to leave which was best for me at the time, I would still highly recommend the company to anyone considering joining.

    Advice to Management

Do more employee voice surveys to gather feedback throughout the year.

    I worked at Zendesk full-time

    Pros

There is a lot of nice things that Zendesk offer/ give to you to make your work environment nice, such as: > Generally pay well in client-facing roles and the company benefits are very comprehensive (e.g. mat/paternity leave 4 months full pay, mobile phone allowance, Vitality, $1500 L&D fund). > If you're lucky/ negotiate well you might get some RSUs that vest over 4 years, after the first year your... remaining 75% vests on a monthly basis. > London office have an almost fully-stocked kitchen and a full-on bar (but is rarely used on a regular basis, it's always the same people turning up....supposed encourage socialness but doesn't). > Management are generally very seasoned and have been round the block but not all are as 'innovative' and open to change. > Business solutions work and have an actual impact on companies out there. > CSR is very good ran by Tegan, lots of varied charitable activities that you can sign up to throughout the year and is done during office hours.

    Cons

    > Poor culture, it's dying - it was always the same small group of people trying to organise socials and events. The majority of the office would not be bothered or want to help out, it felt like pulling teeth. Managers would not get in involved in activities either (unless it was a team bonding activity and paid for by the company). > People can work from home, which is a nice perk but often a whole... department will be WFH leaving the office very dead and low energy, and then people are complaining why they have to do virtual meetings or rearrange things because half the team is OOO. > The business is growing very quickly and because of that many processes are being put in place have really hindered the speed of delivery - lots of bureaucracy. > Even though it's originally an European business, all major decisions and ELT/ leadership sit in SanFran. It's the American way and everyone else has to follow or adapt. > Major diversity issues in some departments > Lots of Salesforce and Oracle people; same bunch of people, same bunch of ideas and thought processes. Zendesk is becoming a mini-version of these companies. > Unless you're in a small team, career progression is hard and a 'promotion' in job title is not enough - you still have the same responsibilities Overall, if you're looking to join a company with a strong culture and want to make an impact I would not recommend you choose Zendesk. They're only getting bigger and you'll be a small cog in the machine. You're better off going to a start-up/ mid-size firm. The culture is becoming more and more corporate. Good for anyone coming from a large institution and want to be somewhere "smaller" with all the nice benefits and doing a 9-5 job.

I worked at Zendesk full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - good benefits and a very nice office in London (Paddington). - amazing product . - good people in the DACH team (though worn out by the UK (EMEA) Management.)

    Cons

EMEA Sales management are not up for the job and not qualified or not bothered to to run an Enterprise business. Brexit spirit in the office (only the Brits can lead???) to work for Salesforce before shouldn't be sufficient to get a job at Zendesk. micro management. no strategy in EMEA. too much admin work.

    Advice to Management

    GO !! (EMEA Sales Management.)

I worked at Zendesk full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great People and Team Spirit. You find very inspiring individuals, with great market knowledge. It makes you enjoy going into the office everyday. There is also a good demand to the product that Zendesk offers and customers are (generally) happy! Company benefits are also good.

    Cons

There is a SERIOUS diversity problem in the London office. They just don't look into it when they hire - very few people of colour, very few muslims, very few women in sales!!! It's almost embarrassing this to happen in a city like London . Specially when the company promotes so much its diversity - are you watching what's going on in the London office? Also, most people in higher management roles (Directors... and above) are middle age white men. Surprised? On another note - CAREER PROGRESSION does NOT exist. They promote in very early stages of the sales path - BD to Junior AE. And that's it. They make NO effort to keep their sales team happy. There are no career progression plans and no promotions. They rather bring someone new from outside rather than give a chance to an existing employee. Have the management ever considered how much more expensive is to train someone new rather than promoting someone who already knows the product and the company?

    Advice to Management

Please take better care of your people. So many good talent left Zendesk because they were not given the opportunity to take the next step. You are missing big time here. Also, be more aware of your diversity policy. You can do better than this.
