With our operations evolving quickly, it is crucial that we provide continuous learning opportunities for our teams around the world. In 2019, we launched LEARN , an online learning platform for our employees. Within a year, this exciting resource had already reached 52,000 people. Safety is a key focus of the material, using web-based resources, AR and VR learning experiences to deliver training on leadership, behaviours and key technical skills. Innovation and education are at the heart of what we do at Anglo American.
The Rainbow Coalition is an outreach organisation that provides support for LGBTQ youth and their allies in Yellowknife, Canada. The great work they do inspired Danielle Dentinger and Kimberley Balsillie to get involved as part of our Ambassadors for Good programme. After talking with members of the Rainbow Coalition of Yellowknife, they hosted a barbecue at Pride Week 2019 to raise money in support of the organisation. Ambassadors for Good empowers our employees the world over to get behind initiatives they believe in, from supplying law books to underfunded universities, to educating girls in South Africa about their periods.
Hydrogen fuel cells have the potential to reinvent the way we live. This technology promises a clean alternative to traditional petrol and diesel engines, revolutionising travel, the transport of goods, the way we power our cities and more. Platinum is often used within the anode catalyst of hydrogen fuel cells, helping to convert chemical energy into electrical power. This makes it a key material for building a sustainable future.
Our purpose is to re-imagine mining to improve people's lives, and that means we take our commitment to reducing GHG emissions by 30% between 2016 and 2030 seriously - even meeting our target for 2020 a year early. To ensure global temperatures won't rise 2°C above pre-industrial levels, we will also be aiming further. We have set ourselves a target of achieving carbon neutrality across our operations before 2040, with eight of our assets carbon neutral within the next 10 years.
Spatial technology is changing mining forever. 3D modelling, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies are now being used to train our employees in safe environments. With this software, we simulate emergency situations as well as virtually constructing and deconstructing buildings, plants, and mines. This means our work is smarter, safer and more efficient.
We are driven by our values. Care and respect for our employees and the communities in which we operate is our first priority. With COVID-19 cases rising, we're focusing on physical safety and mental health, which is why it's essential that we remain vigilant in these 5 simple steps. Do your part and keep doing the right thing
Hydrogen is gathering momentum across the globe. These are just a few of the groundbreaking projects announced recently. As a founding member of the #HydrogenCouncil we are thrilled that the shift to #renewableenergy is now becoming a reality.
With hydrogen already central to energy transition conversation, the World Economic Forum's top 10 emerging technologies report will ensure green hydrogen and sustainable energy are high on the world's agenda
