Globally, we need to start talking about soil. As more pressure is put on land to grow more crops, soil can become overly salty, stripped of nutrients and erode away entirely. This poses a difficult challenge: how can we increase crop yield while protecting soil? World Soil Day is dedicated to opening up this important conversation. Senior Agronomist at Anglo American's Crop Nutrients, Ross Mitchell had this to say about the importance of healthy soil: "There’s a reasonably fixed area on which we can grow crops in the world. I think it’s in single figures percentage wise. We need to maximise the value of that land in terms of productivity for food, both now and in the future, because there’s going to be a lot more of us." said Ross.

At Anglo American, support for our employees extends beyond the workplace. That's why we've created WeCare, a framework designed to protect both our workforce and our communities. Domestic violence is a harsh reality faced by many across the globe. But this doesn't have to be the case. Living With Dignity is a core pillar of WeCare, supporting women through gender-based violence. By partnering with health authorities and charities, we can better identify women at risk of violence and provide for their needs, whether that's by creating safe spaces and shelters, or directing them towards relevant support services and resources. Raising awareness also plays a crucial role in putting an end to domestic violence.
