Following the success of the sunflower lanyard in our COVID-19 vaccination sites, we are proud to have now introduced the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme across all our Boots UK and Boots Opticians stores. The lanyard allows people to discreetly indicate that they have a hidden disability, such as autism, chronic pain or dementia, by wearing an easily recognisable sunflower lanyard or pin badge. "This is such a momentous scheme as it now gives a sense of freedom for those living with disabilities that are not always obvious. You can imagine the impact having an invisible disability has on your mental health. You don’t want to go out to encounter this humiliation. Going to the shops or just enjoying life with your friends becomes an experience you would rather avoid than enjoy. Now I can flash my sunflower lanyard without having to explain myself, feel embarrassed or humiliate myself." - Sally Lodge, Boots Opticians, Learning & Development

We’re proud to share that since the launch of our contact lens recycling scheme in 2019, we have recycled an incredible 13 tonnes of contact lens waste! The scheme, which was the first of its kind in the UK, is run in partnership with Acuvue and TerraCycle UK and aims to significantly reduce plastic in landfill by providing a simple and practical alternative to the UK’s 3.7 million contact wearers.
