The Morgan Brothers founded The Patent Plumbago Crucible Company in Battersea, London, in 1856. Did you know... Plumbago was chosen as it was the name originally given to the graphite used in our crucibles. After a second challenging year, with the COVID-19 pandemic driving various restrictions on mobility and activity around the world, our demand recovered strongly across the global economy; resulting in strong growth & our margins at their highest point in more than 20 years. Pete Raby commented: "I would like to thank our employees for their outstanding commitment and support during the year as they have cared for each other while working diligently to meet the increased demand from our customers." At Morgan, the wellbeing of our people is important. Our ‘Better You, Better Life' wellbeing programme, which also supports our company purpose of improving the quality of life, runs activities across the Group to promote healthy choices and encourages our people to get involved. Our Kizad site embraced the Better You, Better Life mentality wholeheartedly, this February, running a 'Sports Week' on their site. With a full programme of activities, from a carrom championship, to a volleyball tournament and cooking without fire competition, there was something for everyone to get stuck in to! Great work boosting moods, making healthy choices and team building too!
To meet our sustainability goals, we need the support of our sites to implement positive environmental changes. Our Augusta site have taken this action and have been focused on reducing their waste through a new, targeted recycling initiative. Partnering with 'Upstream Recycling', the team have installed a recycling station in the parking lot on site, which will be used by the Augusta team, their families and neighbours in the surrounding area. Making recycling easily accessible in the community! This excellent idea is aiming to increase recycling on the Augusta site by 25% over the coming years, enabling us to reduce our waste and negative impact on society. Great work by the team!

This World Water Day join our teams and help use water more sustainably. Together we can make a difference. Here are some of our water highlights from 2021: • St Marys, USA: closed loop system. The team installed a cooling tower, which allows the same water to be used to cool machines, with no discharge. This change resulted in a 90% reduction in water usage; • Augusta, USA: water recycling.The team connected the nozzles used in blowing the product, to the blown water-cooling system. This change has allowed 5.9 million gallons of water to be saved annually; • Stourport, UK: water-saving opportunity. The team identified an opportunity in our automated ball-mill cleaning system. By increasing the time interval between the flushing operations they were able to save an estimated 4 million litres of water per year; • Gujarat, India: rainwater harvesting. The team at this site focused on conserving and protecting water with the installation of a new rainwater harvesting system.
This March our Ciria India team marked a fun-filled and educational 'Safety Week' at their site. Throughout the week, they were focused on many areas of safety. From a workshop on identifying unsafe acts, to first aid training and yoga for mental health; the team shared an engaging and informative week of activities together.
