Creating a working environment where our people feel comfortable to bring their true, authentic selves to work is an important part of creating an inclusive culture at Morgan. We're in the process of launching our very first women's focused Employee Resource Group (ERG) to help to foster this environment at Morgan. We hope that our Women@Morgan group will be the first of many ERGs across our business, allowing us to build employee driven communities within Morgan. Communities that support our people to thrive.
We believe that diversity across all of our teams has huge value at Morgan. Our aim is that our people are reflective of the communities in which we operate. One key area we measure and look to improve is female representation. By 2030 our goal is a leadership team which is made up of at least 40% female managers, executives, and directors. https://www.morganadvancedmaterials.com/en-gb/sustainability-responsibility/people/
Here at Morgan we strive to improve our workplace for the benefit of staff and customers. Diversity and inclusion are vital to our success. To find out more about diversity and inclusion at Morgan, visit: our website.
We are committed to operating in an ethical way, using our leadership behaviours and the Morgan Code as principles and policies to guide us in our decision-making. Raising awareness and educating our people on ethics is part of our commitment. This February, we're running our very first Ethics Week across our global sites; spending the week raising awareness of the Morgan Code, celebrating ethics training successes and sharing useful resource with our teams. We're looking forward to engaging with our people, to ensure that we all do business the right way.
Happy Chinese New Year to all celebrating today. We wish you good health, good luck and happiness throughout the year.
Creating a sustainable future is an important part of our strategy at Morgan. In the second half of 2021, we’ve focused on driving our sustainability agenda further into our organisation. We understand that engaging and inspiring our people to create local initiatives will better enable us to reach our goals. Our CEO Pete Raby comments: "The COVID-19 era has brought the need for a sustainable future into focus. As a purpose led organisation, we strive to leave a lasting, positive impact on the world."
We drive improvements in waste reduction and recycling through Kaizen and 6S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain and Safety) activities. We follow the principles of Kaizen, which eliminates waste from overproduction, improves quality, increases efficiency, decreases idle time, and reduces unnecessary activities. 2021 saw waste generation improvements made at several sites, through an increased focus on waste segregation, and by improving waste by category. Through these actions, in 2021 our businesses reduced waste intensity by 3% compared to 2020, with an overall waste generation reduction of 21% (on an absolute basis) compared to 2019.
In December 2021, we were proud to sign up to the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). We have now commenced the process of defining targets to align with the SBTi, so that we can reduce our climate impact. SBTi encourages companies to demonstrate climate leadership through the public commitment of Greenhouse Gas reductions... By the nature of our solutions we already support our customers on their low carbon journey. We are delighted to now also bring the focus on climate reduction inhouse to our manufacturing operations. Learn more about SBTi below.
A conflict of interest exists when a financial, personal, or professional interest creates competing loyalties. Conflicts of interest are more common than you might think, and educating our people on the best way to address these conflicts is an important part of ensuring that our people do business the right way, safely and ethically. From keeping personal interests separate to Morgan interests and not making personnel decisions for close work colleagues, we'll be sharing guidance with our employees throughout our first 'ethics week' this February.
We are proud to be a member of the British Ceramic Confederation’s voluntary member initiative, to drive forward the decarbonisation of the UK ceramics sector. The scheme promotes collaborative working and learning opportunities across the breadth of the UK ceramics industry, allowing Morgan to share and implement immediate changes for the net zero transition. Our membership supports our goals, while enabling us to support the UK ceramics community, through mentoring of SME members to achieve their own environmental targets. Learn more about our goals below.
