By supporting the learning and development of our people, we’re supporting the future of Morgan. Our Group Director, Environment & Sustainability, Lori, was recently certified with the Center for Sustainability Excellence. This achievement required Lori to focus on her personal development, whilst also creating a two year sustainability action plan for Morgan, (evaluated and graded as part of the exam certification criteria). Congratulations to Lori for this fantastic achievement!
The positive energy saving actions of our individual sites are important when taking accountability for our own environmental impact. One great example of site change is at our Suzhou site, where they have recently installed low KW LED lighting. This change not only reduced the CO2 impact, but also reduced the power consumption with an added safety benefit of making the workshops and offices brighter. The team changed over 170 lighting fixtures across the site, resulting in an estimated 70,000kWh reduction each year, the equivalent of 27T of CO2e, or 1,498 trees. A great way to save energy, reduce our environmental impact and keep our people safe.
With many sustainability buzzwords and acronyms, understanding sustainable developments can be confusing at times! We're busting the jargon this month: • ESG = Environment, Social and Governance. • Environmental =Considers issues relating to the quality and functioning of the natural environment. Environmental criteria may include energy use, pollution, or waste • Social = Considers issues relating to the rights, wellbeing and interests of people and communities, from health and safety, to human rights and diversity • Governance = Considers issues relating to the principles defining responsibilities, rights, and expectations between different organisational stakeholders Learn about our ESG strategy using the link below.
We are committed to efficient use of energy across our business. Our goal is to reduce our Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030, as part of our aspiration to be net zero by 2050. Learn about the steps we're taking to reach this goal.
Our focus on sustainability is nothing new and it's something we'll be continuing to work on through the coming year. To support our goals, we're encouraging everyone to make their own sustainability new year's resolutions. Whether it's using the car less, being more considered with new purchases or cutting down on meat consumption, there are plenty of ways to get involved. Are you committing to something similar? Share your own sustainability goals in the comments.
Wishing a very Happy New Year to everyone in our extended Morgan family.
Whilst 2021 was a challenging year for many reasons, we are proud of the way which our people have continued to deal with the impact of COVID-19. Their resilience, combined with the collaboration and understanding of our customers and suppliers has been a great positive for us as a business in 2021. Thank you to everyone in our extended Morgan family for their support this year.
Our thinkSAFE commitments are a set of safety behaviours which support us in delivering a safe and healthy workplace. They are a simple set of values that all our people can make a personal commitment to follow.
We were delighted to get a 77% response rate in our recent 'Your Voice' survey. We're busy analysing the feedback from across the world, and look forward to sharing updates on how we're improving in 2022!
