There are many ways which our teams have been embracing our safety commitments, following their new thinkSAFE safety behaviour training. Our operations Manger Bruce comments on his crew's behaviour changes, just a few days after the thinkSAFE refresh training: "For quite a while we have told employees only to use the Long 4” Lock out locks for lock out on their machines. When we purchase these they come with a plastic lock that looks very similar to a 2” lock. Just days after the training a had a question from someone in my team 'are these OK to use?'. This questioning is a great thing as it means they are talking about 'Lock Out', which I LOVE!" #thinkSAFE
As part of our focus on safety this November, we are talking about our safety commitments. Today we want to share with you, why ‘challenging positively’ is important to us. People don’t take risks without a reason - they do what they do because it makes sense to them at the time. We encourage a working environment where everyone feels confident to respectfully challenge negative attitudes to safety, unsafe behaviour or working conditions. This is because when someone does challenge, it shows they are aware of the risks, alert to hazards and most importantly, is shows they care.
Wishing a very happy Hanukkah to our teams and customers, celebrating across the world.

Our teams have been embracing our safety commitments and new thinkSAFE safety behaviour training. ThinkSAFE ambassador Armin talks about how the training has impacted the approach to don't walk by at his site: "After the training we see more often, that people pay more attention and talk to their colleagues if they see safety issues such as forgotten safety glasses or walking in the way of the forklift. We've also seen that the people who receive the comments are very thankful and that everyone is happy that our people are looking out for each other”. #thinkSAFE
Happy Thanksgiving to each of you who are celebrating today!
Our Ranipet team have taken a great step forward in reducing their plastic waste; eliminating polybags from their ceramic blanket packaging in favour of a single woven sack. Following a concentrated testing period, the team concluded that eliminating the plastic bag would have no impact on the protection of the product. Excellent work by the team, reducing plastics and time to package the product too; a double win!
As part of our focus on safety this November, we are talking about our safety commitments. Today we want to share with you, why we ‘don’t walk by and we report safety problems. It’s easy to ignore or dismiss hazards, incidents or near misses, especially if they seem minor or insignificant. Maybe we’re too busy or preoccupied to notice when something’s not safe. Or we don’t report something because we feel embarrassed or worry about getting the blame. We have learnt that if we don’t report an issue, nobody knows it’s happening and the consequence could be very serious. Our training instead reminds us to think about if there’s a reason it keeps happening, so we can get it corrected.
Our people are dedicated to their communities. Our Group Financial Systems Manager David has dedicated his free time to supporting the Scouts since he was a boy, and we’re delighted to share a window in to his wonderful community spirit: https://www.morganadvancedmaterials.com/en-gb/sustainability-responsibility/people/community-engagement/ We are immensely proud of David and his fantastic commitment to supporting the development of young people in his community; what an inspiration!
